7.0.5 - unholy graphics bug dragging to arrange

Post by forge » Fri Apr 25, 2008 3:02 am

normally you can drag a clip from session to arrange by grabbing it then hitting tab before letting go of the mouse button

in 7.0.5 if i do this I get all manner of weird glitchiness where Live can't decide which view to show so it just keeps jumping between them really fast

Win XP

Hi Forge,

I am unable to reproduce this here.
Do you notice this behavior in all your sets and with all kind of clips?

Best,

Doesn't seem to happen for me neither, Forge. Something wrong with the hardware-accelleration settings of your graphiccard-driver maybe?

I just tried again now and it even does it just if I hold down the tab key even without holding a clip

even in a blank set with no clip in it - if I do 'new set'

this never happened before 7.0.5

Hi,

Are you holding the TAB key? That indeed makes the view switch almost as fast as light speed, but it also does it in Live 6, for me..

Or did I misunderstood?

when you said this it made me wonder because I have to turn off hardware acceleration when I do screen captures, but no this is happening even with it enabled

If I quit 7.0.5 and load up 7.0.2 it doesn't happen - today since this happened I quite 7.0.5 and used 7.0.2 for the rest of the day, just got these replies after coming home and loaded up 7.0.5 and it still happens - it would seem 100% reproducible

Same experience here as Amaury's. Maybe the TAB key is just stuck on your keyboard and thus keeps switching between the views constantly? Try cleaning it. ;)

Hi,

we tried it on another XP computer and could not reproduce it there neither. If you keep getting the problem, could you try to reinstall Live 7.0.5 and trash the preferences?

Yes, I just saw your latest post after posting mine.

Still I can say that the behavior is the same for me in Live 6 and Live 7.05. Is your keyboard repeat rate or sensitivity different from the default setting maybe? What happens if you press TAB in another application (like Word or something)?

This is what my setting looks like. Especially check for the first parameter:

Hi,

I just tried with 7.0.2 too, and it is just the same: if I press and hold the TAB key, the view switches, and after a short time (the time set in Windows for "key repetition"), the view "flickers" back and forth. As far as I know, it should be the same in every version of Live. I'm using Windows Vista here.

You can "press" TAB while dragging a clip, but not "hold" TAB, and it's always been so. Isn't it, in 7.0.2?

If you think you have a different problem, please write to support, providing the usual info.

whooops.

It seems I just must have held it down longer in 7.0.5 and never realised. In fact that must be the first time I've held it down ever using Live in 6 years!!!

well, I guess it does expose some unpleasant, though hardly urgent, behaviour if the key is held down

I have never noticed that ever before

Well, sure -- if your tab key has a repeat function, holding it down is much like pressing it repeatedly as fast as you can (or faster).
The difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

I've noticed key repeat rate in Windows tends to get changed for no apparent reason sometimes. I usually have mine set to maximum and every once in awhile it drops to the minimum. This has happened on several XP installs on several different computers over the years. Maybe your default setting was lower before and it got changed to a higher value.
