Firebox Mac Latency?

Post by Kodama » Fri Apr 25, 2008 6:00 pm

Hey Mac users, what total I/O latency do you consistently get from your Firebox?

I have a MBP Santa Rosa with the crappy FW chip.

I use an X-Station now, which is actually a great interface & I get about 16ms.

Hoping to get that to more like 6ms for $300 or less in a portable package, but now sure what to get.

There aren't any PCI Express cards that are reasonable at all, and I got less than stellar results from a Mackie Onyx... so I'm wondering how much better any FW interface can work.

Yes, I already know that the $550 interfaces are better and the $1800 are even better, but that's not in my budget...

Hi Kodama,

I actually still use a Powerbook 1.67, 1.5 Gb RAM with a Firebox and played a really good gig with it last night. Live looping of my bowed instrument across three tracks, an instance of a drum rack, plus a few more audio tracks and latency was not worth mentioning for what I was doing. I can't remember specifically what it was (I'll check in a few hours when I'm home again. I do have to drop the buffer size a fair bit (250 or something like that).

yeah, i run off of a 1.5ghz powerbook, 2gb of ram... like 10-12 audio/midi tracks...

settings: 188 samples
error compensation: -14.00 ms

no problems at all. i have a LOT of plugins going as well.
