Buy an IMAC?
I recently took XP off my Macbook and now use Leopard to run Ableton Live 7 and Reason.
The headaches I had with my Novation X-Station are gone. I no longer have latency issues. I do not need to use ASIO4ALL. ( Let's hope I am not jinxing myself here, as I just did this last weekend.)
Now, with my desktop dying every few days, I am thinking about buying a IMAC for my studio. I have a new group just starting up, so this is the time to do it. (Along with the fact my desktop is on the fritz.)
What are your thoughts? Is the IMAC reliable? I am not very concerned about nonApple VSTs as I use mostly Reason, samples and Ableton's VSTs.
I am most interested in hearing from those that actually use an IMAC to record.
Thanks and I'll take your answers off the air.

Want to throw this out there as it is going to be an expensive purchase. I have seen a few glitches posted.
I am going for the big ol' IMAC if I get this. I hope to have it for quite a long time.

After upgrading Live i'm definently satisfied with mine.
Logic works amazingly good, i havn't had a crash or even a 2 second waiting glitch since i bought it and even when recording 16ch at once it doesn't strain at all even when i'm using shitloads of external plugs.
If you're only using Reason, samples and ableton's own plugs you're not going to need the 4GB ram i got either. 2GB is even a bit excessive for that so you'd probably be able to live well off the 1gb built-in if money's tight.
Buy it, you won't regret it. Totally worth it.

This is good stuff to hear.
Yeah - it is amazing how 2GB of RAM on a Mac means so much more than 2 gigs on a desktop.

iMac bumped today.. better value...
does anyone actually realize that the supposed "industry standard" parts in a Mac have to meet a higher standard than most PC manufacturers. Apple pays a premium for the harder tested components. Thats why you can go buy a cheaper system with similar looking components but they have a higher failure rate. Thats why Apple systems rates so highly in the reliability stakes. People have always though the same part is the same part and it is in a way but in the same way Intel releases CPU's and "rates" them at different speeds because they are less stable at higher clocked speeds. For sure they are exactly the same just rated different and therefore u pay more and they restrict the speed in the so their failure rate is acceptable. You get what u pay for as always.

Oh so glad I waited - this just came out
Apple will also offer a new 3GHz Intel chip as an option for built-to-order 24in iMac systems. All the new iMacs will feature a faster 1066MHz system bus and 6MB of level 2 cache.
All but the cheapest of Apple's three standard iMac offerings will now ship with 2GB of Ram.
