kaossilator/jazz mutant style controller using iphone

was checking the you tube video above - some guys turned his iphone into a midi controller.

I was thinking about korgs new little kaossilator and how cool it would have been if they had given it midi -

imagine having two xy grids on your iphone. One thumb controlling each - one could be your kaosilator the other could be controlling cutoff and res. or the two of them could be kaosilator style grid controllers each controlling a different soft synth.

Maybe this wouldn't be so hard to achieve if you made a suitable rack in ableton with all your scale presets/synth sounds set up right.

Would the two xy grids work on iphone - being able to adjust one with each thumb? Could really be a lot of fun.

Another nice idea to copy might be a Dexter style eq curve for lives eq 8

Anybody know much about the iphone Software Development Kit thats rumoured to be coming out in a few weeks? Wonder if it will be free or user friendly

I was never tempted too much with those iphones due to the shit camera and ridiculous cost. But if the above was possible could really think again.

Just found this link from the youtube post that I hadn't seen before: homepage for a bunch of homemade iphone apps.

Looks like it is possible. Any cleverclogs programmers out there got an iphone and some time/inclination?

i used this for a while - it's the biz.
but it fucked with my network settings and i wasn't able to access the internets via wifi without restarting my computer.

I guess it would mainly be a case of modifying the max/msp code - I see he has the source code for some of the other apps on there ( check out the "fake shaver simulator with a sound and a vibration" WTF? )

Anyone max users here fancy customising the patch so it can send midi signals to live.

I've downloaded the max msp demo, but struggling with the tutorials

I'm sure this is an easy job for someone here.

Would really appreciate some help/guidance

SDK has arrived.

After announcing the iPhone SDK today, Apple has posted the link for the SDK download, though Apple's site is presently being overwhelmed by the traffic.

XCode

To clarify what the SDK provides and why you might want it. The SDK offers development tools to write applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It includes an updated version of Xcode, Apple's development environment, along with an emulator to test your iPhone applications. It does not contain a beta of the iPhone 2.0 firmware, so there should be no reason for the end customer to download it.

iPhone Emulator
The iPhone SDK requires an Intel Mac running Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later.

Apple's license agreement when installing the software, understandably contains specific restrictions on what kind of applications you can create. Most are expected:

- No unlocking or the ability to distribute applications in a method other than the iTunes Stores
- No obscene, pornographic content, or other materials that may be found objectionable
- Must not excessively use bandwidth or burden network capacity
- Specifically with regard to the carrier's network, you are not allowed to develop Voice over Internet (VOIP) functionality -- though Apple has specifically said that VOIP over Wifi will be allowed.

forgot about this for a while and then noticed the £100 drop in price for iphones in town today. I see apples got a directory of webapps up on their page now -

didn't spot any music making apps on there yet. Seems a shame. anybody now of any?

This vj midi app looks great but needs your iphone to be cracked. Something similar that included the xy pad doubled up would just be so much fun. Imagine using two xys at the same time one thumb on each, and maybe even the accelerometer as well for recording midi automation. cut-off resonance and pitch all at the same time? dope.

if you've got a controller with an x/y pad, couldn't you set up your own kaossilator (but better) using live? don't get me wrong, i love the kaossilator, but it seems like you could pretty easily get live to do everything it does.

exactly. Two xy pads controlling your max/live style kaossilator would knock the socks of korgs little yellow gadget

on a kaossilator tip, i knocked up something similar for my padkontrol last year, based on a suzuki omnichord. the xy acts as a strum plate and the pads as chord selectors, so you can play it like a really unconvincing ukulele.
