of course it's not all been done...

...but even one day, when there's so much music out there that it seems all the good stuff has been done before, there will still be a need for new music. that's because music is essentially communication, from person a to person b, and people want to communicate with those around them now, not those who have been dead hundreds of years.

there is this theory that says that the universe is accellerating until everything that is possible is going to happen simultaneously. If you listen to breakcore you might find that we almost reached that point.

exactly, if you look outside the dominance of 12-tet over 'modern' music then there is a huge space of unexplored tonalities. Its only really the last 100 years where that has become the dominant tuning.

we just need some decent support from software developers so that making microtonal music is just as approachable as 12-tet.

I kind of want to bite my tongue on this statement, but emotionally I think everything has been done for the time being. There isn't a song that doesn't capture almost any feeling you have, or just any situation you're in.

As far as every tone and rhythm being done already is a bit of an overstatement. Technology, technique, and technicality will, and is advancing, which will allow for new sounds and such. Thus possibly leading to new feelings and emotions.

i kinda feel like there is a lot of room for new music!

to me everyone is doing the same thing.

all its gonna take is one act to side-step out of the current fix and boom, it'll be off.

i think it goes beyond music, and dancing. don;t forget music can make you laugh, cry and blow your head off. it doesn't have to be all puckered lips and pointing fingers. or twisting beards to pure sine tones. and laptop staring

can't we all lighten up a little?

i think tenacious d was the funniest band that came out in ages.

what happened to funny shit? i kinda miss the ninteties for being so light.

todays music feels so frikn hard-arse.

in a way ambient is an escape form that but then its fallen to the same same tactics of every other genre...

i think ideas matter. and thinking outside the box. and also, hard work. not just creating another quick techno album to shake the dance floor, or forming another band to make the same songs someone else made last year.

you know, create a masterpiece.

can u do that?

and sure, a lot of what i think music about is just personal love of music and your journey with it.

but

its not just about the music.

its about you!

i do think, in the framework of "songwriting", and i refer to western harmonies and compositions, everything is so limited to begin with.. and till now, definitely has been done. thats why electronic music is so appealing. it goes down to the depth of sound. the frequencies, the waves. and allow more room in the composition and the structure. it TENDS to be more experimental by its nature.
i have to be in a very sentimental mood to listen to a song, with a singer and guitar etc. its like the song wants to be my friend and jumps all over me with all its sticky personality... not that i never get sentimental. i sure do some times.
