mac or pc purchase

I also wanted to ask about bring stuff back from america. As there are a lot of americans on here. A friend told me i would have to take it out of the box in order to bring it back into the uk. Is this right?

You could use the desktop for a mp3 and file server, make an organized directory structure and just archive everything there leaving your laptop lean & mean for current projects; network the computers with 100baseT and file transfer should be pretty fast...now if it was a PC laptop u were getting I'd recommend using the desktop exclusively for internet activity (so you wouldn't have to run performance killing anti-virus/firewall software on the laptop). Having two comps is a good opportunity to enhance the overall performance of the main audio machine by eliminating any non-audio activities/hardware and their associate drivers, file space, and other resources.

Of course it may be hard to resist using that new lappy to watch DVDs & surf pr0n!

thats some imagination you got there.

i dont have a problem getting a pony. But exploting a monkey like that i could have a few animal rights activists on my case

Imo that's because:

a) the architecture of Win is reasonably well known and there are some fundamental holes that really need plugging and have done for years. A bit like Live's Feature Request Forum

b) virus/malware writers aren't going to dedicate 'resources' catering to a minority platform when there's already a huge swathe of 'open PC's' operated by idiots.

Of course the more popular the minority platform becomes the greater the risk that b) will change - and it is not the platform itself that will protect from the attention of dedicated hackers.

Question here just out of curiosity. When running XP via boot camp on a Mac is all the same registry voodoo bs still there to deal with?

I'd recommend a mac - switching from pc to mac was best thing i ever did. I had to go back to using windows at work and it drove me mad as there is so much good software that's only available for the mac. There's nothing that i'd want to use that's pc only, other than a few plugins.

I really can't understand people who say that the reason they don't get one is the price - If you use your computer every day surely it's worth paying an extra couple of hundred bucks to be able to use osx on a computer you may have for many years, plus you can use windows on it too.

Everyone I know who's had the opportunity to spend time using a mac has ditched their pc, gone and bought a mac, and they love it. Everyone I know who uses a pc hasn't spent much time on a mac, and usually have the facts wrong about them as they are only going on what they have heard. Obviously that won't be the case with everyone in this forum, but that's my experience.

unfortunately yes. apart from some boot time stuff behind the scenes that is different, running xp on boot camp is exactly like running windows on a non apple pc.
