Live 7 or 8 Wishlist

Post by samuelstark » Thu May 01, 2008 3:14 pm

Hi here's a few things I feel is missing. Please add to the list if you want!

MIDI

1. GROOVE / SWING Quantize for Live. Make your own templates from audio (warp points?) or import MPC grooves to use on your midi tracks. Would make it so much better!

2. MIDI TOOLS Some really basic midi commands like: delete doubles (notes), extend midi notes/no overlap (for extending chords etc). Just basic midi functions like you got in Logic and other DAWs to improve workflow.

3. RANDOMIZER Some basic randomizer options (maybe as a pen tool?) Great to do some randomizations to volume/pan/swing/fine pitch. Just being able to "humanize" things a bit.

4. BEAT REPEAT If there would be a way to use the arpeggio like a MPC "beat repeat". You can do it now by switching off Sync in arpeggio, but it would be nice to have it synced but ReTriggered every time you press a note.

5. MIDI MAP 2. FXpansions Guru drum software got the best midi implentation so far, and it would be great if that would be possible in the future!

It would work like this: You open an instance of simpler (part of a drum rack), Map your midi controls to control Tune, Filter, Env Attack, volume etc and save it as "default". When working in drum racks you would select the pad, the simpler opens and you got midi control of tune, filter etc just as your midi map. BUT AS SOON AS YOU SWITCH to another simpler (another pad or another simpler layer), the Midi map moves with you to control the new simpler with the same controls! Just a superb way to work with a set of midi controllers (example on you MPD 32), and have them only affect the "current selected" Simpler or sampler! This one would make my day!

6. SAMPLER Being able to automate the loop controls in sampler. I'm using it to chop samples and the "forward-reverse" loop just took away the need of Recycle. Would be great to be able to automate it so you could make a more "Recycle" like Macro setup as a default for chopping samples. (instead of the simpler default and the "loop compress" thing)

AUDIO/MIXER

1. GROUPS We absolutely NEED the option to "group" tracks. Easy to route several tracks to a sub mix. Adjust volume on several tracks in one go or just being able to move a block of tracks to somewhere else. Very good as well for minimizing/hiding a bunch of vocal bv tracks or a drum submix. (Maybe be able to "choose" a couple of tracks and "group" them to a Submix channel so they'll fold like a drumrack channel?)

2. FADES

Thanks for a great program, loving the new stuff and drum racks! It has changed the way I make music, and I think it's the best program out there for creating music! Keep up the good work!

MIDI

ROUND ROBIN. Just being able to cycle through samples with sampler. Great for percussions etc. I know you can do it now, but it invloves an LFO and midi clock and its not as easy as just selecting "round robin"

you can do this now with Live 7 - it maybe takes a little setting up if you want a whole library of them, but once you've done it you can save your MIDI clips either in a track as an ALS file, or as Live clips

basically, take the sample you want the groove from, warp it so that you take all the groove out (i.e. put a warp marker bang on every single 16th beat with no gaps before or after the peak) then use 'slice to new MIDI track. A clip containing the groove will be created on the new MIDI track - you can then either make a track of them then drag the track to the browser and have an ALS full of the clips on a track, or just drag them one clip at a time and Live clips will be created for each one with the sliced loop on a drum rack saved with it

have you tried the velocity plugin? it has a good random capability - I use it combined with Arpeggiator a lot

1. MIDI Event editor / extended MIDI controls in general.

2. The ability to turn Follow Actions on/off, so that you could cycle in a scene with follow actions if you wanted to.

3. Vertical zooming, something like the magnifying glass you find in other DAWs that allows you to zoom both horizontally and vertically.

A step sequencer with midi groove would be great. Just perfect for drums. :)

Step input for midi notes. That one is really REALLY lacking.

Delete doubles, well, no need for that one, as Live does it automatically.

The option to split a clip in the arrange view into several parts of equal length would be handy. For instance, select a 2 bar part, place marker after first beat and press the "spit into multiple" or whatever command, and the clip is split into eight parts, each 1 beat long.
Live + M4L, MacBookPro & Ultralite mk3. Plugins from Softube, Soundtoys, Eventide, 2CAudio, Cytomic, AudioDamage, OhmForce, FabFilter, SonicCharge, Waves, MadronaLabs, NI and ExpertSleepers. Oh, and a bunch of hardware... =D

This is not the same as having proper groove templates, you're still stuck with a GLOBAL setting. The whole point is that you need to be able to have a different setting per clip if you want to. Even a swing amount knob on the clip properties panel would be a start.

A good example might be how a band play together, each muso having a slightly different feel which contributes to an overall groove.

After spending a lot of time creating a midi part with great feel to it I'd really love to be able to save the result of that work to a library so I can recall it later without having to do it all again, or get a groove from a recycle file, or from warp markers and apply it to another clip. Not on a global basis though, it completely defeats the object.

TBH I've never got a satisfactory result from that master/slave workaround without it causing clicks and glitches from any tempo synced plugins I have running, it's not even a workaround for me.

interesting - I haven't tried it really

but I wasn't suggesting to use the groove setting at all - I would set it to straight because the groove is already in the clip

- channels Sound group (very important and used)
- link channels (to raise or lower the fader channels at once for different tracks)
- Normalize Audio Clips (not just when exporting)
- Improved output Mutichannels for VSTs (especially in putting the "solo")
- Mutichannels master.
