lowering several tracks volumes at the same time

Post by dsolve » Wed Apr 30, 2008 7:39 pm

anybody know how to lower every track volume at the same time...i know i can do this in other programs like logic just by selecting all tracks and grabbing one volume knob and all the other volumes will follow...it is possible in live?
thanks!

it doesn't work like Logic.
You have to create another track and route all sub-tracks to it.

sadly, it is not possible.
workaround: route the tracks to another channel to act as a group channel...

what i do is just type in the new desire volume values to each track. it's much faster than dragging the volume slider. if you need to lower the volume of a group of tracks by -6dbs, then do the math and type the new values (tracks at 5db - 6db= -1db)

Do you have a midi controller of some sort? your sig doesn't say what you have... Anyway this is very easy if you map the tracks to a single fader.. midi controllers are pretty cheap these days.. even for me and I'm ghetto assed poor. Well, Good luck.

ok...i just tried it(one knob asign it to all) but i found 2 problems with this....1-it doesn't keep the proportions between levels(lowered all at the same level) and 2- i already have my midi controller assign to each track volume and if i do this i loose my set up...so i guess it would be nice if ableton add this kind of simple function wich i consider very usefull...

You can do it in the arrangement view. Choose to see the volume envelopes of the tracks you want to change. Select the region + tracks you want to change the volume for with your mouse and then simply drag up or down. It will change volumes in proportion to what they were.

I agree, though, that a multiple channel selection to change volume of multiple tracks at once in session view would be very helpful.

really? cause that would be great if possible...but it won't work for me...i tried already that...but i can't get to select tracks and region at the same time toghether...and if i just select all regions or all the tracks i just can move one volume at the time...do you need to press some key?please let me know...
thanks

The bad news is just routing everything to a single track will not stop channels from peaking out within the group. If there is unwanted distortion it remains.

They need a way to select all the faders and pull them down at once.

Routing all the channel's volumes to the same MIDI control should work. Just make sure it's set to send relative values (+1 or -5, for instance) instead of the other way (e.g., vol = 127).

That way, whatever relative positions the sliders are at, they should all move +1 or -5 or whatever you do.

I'm at work though, so haven't tried this. I just remember reading it in my Axiom manual....I think.
