This only really works if the signal goes boom-boom-boom or click-click-click with a regular interval. Good idea though.

Yes that's right, but for sound from a record (in a DJ setup) it would be a very nice feature...

I think your best bet is to go over all your records in the comfort of anywhere that's not the stage

so you have some idea of the BPM, and then just guestimate it from there. The tap tempo comes in handy as well, I should think. It's pretty accurate.

I have a MC-307 as MIDI-Master. So i can change the tempo in 0.1 BPM steps. And you can handle it like a turntable "Turntable-Emulation"..........

synching to turntables....

although (and I hate to say this) it's a lot easier to synch Live to a CD player... turntables speed up and slow down a very small amount naturally and this causes variance in BPM. Thats why when your doing a long mix on the decks you have to make slight adjustments sometimes. CD players don't do this....

Once you have a track on a CD player beat matched to Live the BPM will stay locked.

Then its not something of use right now. Because then the turntables should first be made of such quality that itself would not variate.

I have an Electrix Repeater with a "Beat Detect" function, that is actually working. It also has a button for "Tap Tempo". If the machine doesn't pick up the tempo right (might get into some polyrhythmic mesure) I can quickly help it back on track by tapping the 4-on-floor beat. Maybe stuff like that work better of you feed them a signal that has been sent thorugh a low pass filter?

OK, now that NI Tracktor 2.6 is on the horizon, it would be great to have this function added to live so I could seamlessly play my Live tracks along with my set.

It's all coming together.

Thinking about this more ~ since the FS2 hardware is plugged into the laptop via Firewire, it would be best if Live cold tap the Auido Out stream from the FS2 hardware. Not sure if they could do that, but that would eliminate any more gear.

The only issue would be if I were DJing with Vinyl only. I know that the new FS software has an audio recording feature ~ I don't know if it only captures Digital files or pulls the audio from the Auido Out on the FS2 hardware (I know the old version did only digital).

Anyway, I think NI & Ableton can colaborate on this one to work it out.

I think internal synchronizing of different applications will become even more common. However, in such a set-up it's not a good thing that Live automatically applies smoothing to incoming sync. I mean, when both applications do refere to the same system clock this smoothi just doesn't make sense! (as it does when syncing live physically to incoming midi clock). oh yeah!!!! The Future Is Modular (!) and we will be patching more and more software together inside stronger and faster machines to hopefully make cooler and cooler music. Well, at least it's gonna be great fun

We need to have the option to tunrn off/on internal sync smoothing in Live.
