microkorg

Post by clavicle06 » Thu May 01, 2008 11:07 pm

right, im very new with this.

i've had a microkorg for ages, and only got ableton recently. i decided to connect microkorg to ableton, soi bought a midi usb thing, you know, midid at the microkorg, plugs into usb at the other end.

anyway, i canot seem to get the microkorg connected to ableton. its very frustrating. i assumed it would be a simple plug in and play.

any advice here?

well... as long as you have installed drivers and chosen the correct midi in, you shouldn't have a problem with it.

questions for you are...

are you getting midi messages into a midi channel?

you do know that you need audio cables connected as well if you are wanting the sounds from the korg?

yeah, im basically just w anting to use the korg to use abletons instruments.

i've connected it to my computer, but im not getting any sounds at all. its very frustrating, also, i dont think the pc is picking up a message form the keyboard.

anything i might have missed here?

i think i know what my problem is here.

im trying to connect this microkorg to my pc.
i have went into abletons "midi sync" section. under the section "midi ports" i only have an output option, but no input option! (the reason i know there CAN be a midi input option is that its there in the "help and lessons" section)

so, i've plugged my keyboard in, BEFORE starting ableton up. but i cant get a signal from my keyboard in ableton. i must be missing something here, but i can't figure out what!

if anyone could help out here i'd be VERY greatful.
cheers,
stephen.

I don't think I messed with anything in the midi section in that regard. I plug the device into the PC before loading live (an MS20 if I decide to muck with it). My keyboard(s) are hooked via a MIDIMan MIDISport 2x2 all the time though.

I assume you clicked the record button in the MIDI track and hit some keys to make sure you have input from it? Check what channel the korg is outputting on and anything else MIDI related in it. I don't have one so I can't help you on that end. Also you plugged the cables in correctly to the korg? On my 2x2 I have to do out to in and in to out on one end. But for yours it should just be MIDI in to MIDI in and out to out if I recall. It could be backwards as it's been awhile since I did that! Check to see if you get any input from the keyboard and we can go from there. I don't come here that often so I may not reply quickly.

right, i think i can now be more accurate about what my problem is, hope someone can help here, not being able to use my microkorg for midi is driving me nuts!

i uninstalled and re installed ableton. (which didnt really help)

ok, heres my problem.

if you go into ableton, go to the help section and look at the tutorial for "midi controllers" , in page 2 of this tutorial it tells you how to set up midi keyboard with ableton.SHOULD be simple.

but in the little picture in page two of the turorial, just at the bottom (of the little picture) it shows you something like this (inthe, preferences-midi sync - section)

>input - controller

>output - controller

and HERES my problem, i dont have the "input - controller" option! i only have the output option, regardless of whether or not i have plugged in my keyboard or not! as i said, i uninstalled it, then re installed it, yet thees no "input - controller" option!!

its driving me insane, how could this be? how could my ableton be missing an option that APPEARS in the lessons and help section?!

what have i forgot to do, what could be the problem here?

if anyone could help i'd be very very grgeatful.
cheers,
steophen.

ps: sorry for the long post. HELP!

I have the same issue with my microkorg. I normally use an M-audio keystation, which worlks just fine as a midi controller. Now I'm trying to hook up the midi from my microkorg to contorl midi in ableton, and it does not seem possible. Ableton simple cannot see that the microkorg is a connected midi device.

BTW: It used to work fine with abelton 5, but does not appear to work with Ableton 7. . . .

Remember, MIDI IN to MIDI OUT and MIDI OUT to MIDI IN (between the microkorg and the usb interface. Some people tend to stuff this up (like myself once  ).
