How to mange a huge liveset?

coupe, have you checked out clip-automating "chain select" on efx racks (having different effects in different chains of a rack)?

to be honest, i haven't really looked into racks so far, just used them.
are plug-ins in a not selected chain deactivated or are they using cpu ?

pitch black, do you switch plug-ins on and off depending in what song you are ?

how do you go about making one big live set of the single song sets that i have already made...

I think I get the building down instead of across thing .

but isnt there a better way?

For example I use different drum noises do I have to program one instance of battery to use all my diff bass drums on different notes in the octave?

Most inportant though is how do I get two live sets up together so I can unify them?

From Live's built-in browser, you can drag Live Sets (.als files) into the existing set.

Or, for more control, you can unfold the .als in the browser (using the little triangle) and drag in individual Tracks. You can also unfold Tracks and drag in individual Clips.

You won't get the return tracks or the MIDI/QWERTY assignments, though - you'll have to re-program these manually. I'd love to see this capability in a future update.

Perhaps a preferences option, or a dialog to "Paste MIDI & QWERTY assignments with imported Live Sets".

make a new set
open your Live browser
browse to the set you want to drag in
open the project folder, see the set (.als)
drag it in
repeat steps 3 to 5 and serve on a bed of wild rice

so the best way to do this whole thing is to set up a single track for bass drum snare claps etc and then just mess around within the drum rack / battery cells ... I think I get it.

Well yes, that is one approach, which some people use, but remember you can work across the page as well. Just keep adding new tracks for each song horizontally as you move down the page.

Which ever works for you.

yeah thats pretty much it, drum racks have really helped for this kinda stuff..
although pasting midi and QWERTY would get a bit over whelming, what if all sets used similar assignments, would it have a heartattack and crash?
plus doing this, would there be some assignments that you forgot about and half way through your live set you wonder why your getting no sound..

its a feature i would rarely use, id rather spend the time doing it all out again for a live set

why would you need to build down so much? im confused by that.

as a brief side note.

How do you guys trigger tracks? you map a button to the track so do you have to have enough buttons for each component of each song?

How do you manage having lets say an MPD with 16 pads on 4 banks.

Do you guys assign a seperate button to play the track then to stop it? or do you just leave stopping it out of it. And stay away from loops.

Im trying to see the big picture here.

I mouse around quite a lot (with the trackpad of the macbook).

Since a couple of weeks I use the WII remote to trigger scenes.

I probably will use it for clip-navigating as well.

I do like Pitch Black, just change midi channel and you have 128 notes if you wish for each song.

edit: its also vital to have a consistant system.
