Diceman by Luke Rhinehart (Explores self and illusion, and freedom and chance/choice)

Carlos Castanedas (Author of a controversial series of books that claimed to describe his training in traditional Native American shamanism, Peyote not included)

Anything by Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting, Acid House, Porn, Filth = All vices catered for, you may even learn some new ones...)

The manual is actually a good suggestion :-)
Something even more entertaining during the summer holidays would be the good old Illuminatus Trilogy. You'll either love or hate it - there's not much in between.
