re-pitching

Post by globalgoon » Mon Oct 21, 2002 3:35 pm

please may we have the option of switching from "stretch" mode to "pitch" mode?

ie: pitch of a clip is related to tempo, and therefore, moving those little stretch marker things about would allow the clip to keep strict time without any stretch artifacts.

it'd be lovely to be able to have some clips stretching as they do now, and still others keeping time the old-fashioned turntable way.

you see, i've got several clips that are like 4 minutes long full on tracks, which start to sound ropey when the tempo strays too far from the original, but would sound fine pitched up or down.

ramble over, ps i mentioned this a while ago but it got no response from other users etc..

there are going to be some nice changes regarding warping/nonwarping/pitch of samples in the next update, but since we are still working on it i cannot tell you more details.

if you just transpose the clip up or down accordingly, it reduces the distortion created by the time stretching process... so in essence, this feature is in live, just not a "feature."

yes, but if you use multiple warp markers in a loop, repitching the whole clip won't help. I was suggesting that the warp markers could alter the pitch of the clip to fit time rather than implement the time stretch/squash algorithms.

last guest was me!

plus ( ) more importantly, the re-pitching needs to be directly related to tempo, I still want my beats in time when i slow my track down - changing the pitch of every clip to compensate would be tiresome
