HAHAHAHA!!!

I am playing gigs and making music with my Tibook 500 over two years now and it,s still going here!

So what are you doing? Making music or running CPU test!
____________________________________________________________

man...i know somebody...dj scanner who is using a Roland PMA-5 keyboard and Alesis AirFX only and the sound is just amazing. here its not about who is using less equipment or so....its in fact a comparison of different systems and has nothing to do with making music only.

but if somebody would like to buy a new system, mac or pc, but still wants to use a lots of Vsti´s and plugs, then he would be pretty pissed of buying a system that is not efficient enough to do what he wants...

ok!!!

i was doing live gigs with a minidisc, an old roland s220 sampler, a casio PT-20 and an ibanez time machine, without any CPU in the past....

so....better don´t bother about whats written in this forum if you don´t understand the reason for it!

cheers, spacy

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter: 35-40%
2) Laptop: Acer 8003Lmi
3) Operating System: XP Pro SP1
4) CPU Make Model and Speed: Pentium M 725 1.6GHz
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram: 512Mo DDR
6) Soundcard: OnBoard AC97
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed: (7200)

AC97 Driver = Wushel's ASIO4ALL at 256 Samples * 2 Ks buffer
--> 10ms latency and no blips or pops !

hi,

tested my computer too - and am quite happy :)

1) 30%
2) Laptop ACER Travelmate 801 LCib
3) WinXP Pro SP1
4) Pentium M (Centrino) 1,4 GHz
5) 512 MB DDR SDRam (2x 233 MHz = 466 MHz Data Rate)
6) Add-on Terratec Phase 26 USB
7) 4200 rpm (it was fine with the test set, but with some live-sets i use an external hd with 7200 rpm)

one remark: with my soundcard, you can't directly change the buffer size value in the live preferences. instead you have to change the latency in the control panel of the soundcard, which offers five different settings. none of them resulted in a buffer size of 512, so i went for 256, which sounded excellent.

bye - am looking forward to the next graph...

Live needs some optimisation...

Post by Beat_Master » Sat Sep 18, 2004 12:13 am

Ok - so i havent got the latest Mac G5 dual blah blah blah...but i do have a dual processor 1.25Ghz G4 with a gig of ram and twin seagate drives that performes brilliantly with Logic Pro and Reason.

Live 4 is a different story - as you will see below with a poor result.

Gulp !! 8O

1. Peak 60%
2. Apple Dual 1.25 Ghz G4
3. OSX Panther 10.3.5
4. Dual 1.25Ghz
5. 1Gig
6. Audiophile Delta 24/96 4m's latency (2+2)
7. Seagate 7200rpm 80+120gig
Dual 1.25 MDD. Panther+OS9. 1Gig DDR. Dual Seagates. Verax fans. Audiophile 24/96. Live 4. Logic Pro 6. Reason 2.5. Absynth 2. UC33e. PC180.

well, be kind to ableton all of you mac users....
i have noticed that same session(not the performance .als but my own) uses some 40% less cpu on ver4 versus ver3 on my pb g4 1ghz and some 25% less on my pb g3 400mhz...
i would call this good news, wouldn't you?

Yes - but imagine how good it would be if they bothered to optimise it properly for Altivec and Mac dual processors!!

I'm new to 'Live' - and luv the programme - but i wasn't really expecting it to be such a 'CPU basher'.

:(

PS:I havent even tried the test in OS9 yet. Might be interesting.

i think they do bother and that we will get that too :D
and soon :!:
we did get midi and virtual instruments in a less than a year, am i wrong?
i use live since ver2, and that is about a year and a half now, and it has been completely renewed since than. and btw working with computers isn't about ghz or cpu usage, but in the workflow, and i found Live here unbeatable and getting better and better...
and YES it is still usable on my os9 400mhz G3, contrary to some native Apple apps  (not just usuable, most of my work starts there and ends up on my G4)
