If you're in it for the money, you won't make any.

I'm only in it for the money and a bit of fun, and it's making twice as much as the day job, which I'm hoping to give up soon for semi-retirement!

More time for motorcycles, sex, bicycles, horses, travelling, camping, sex...

i never intended to make money from music, but it happened that some of my tracks end up in some little TV pieces.. so in 2 months the 2007 bill is arriving :) this can be as much as third of my yearly non-music income. besides, i did some sound design for interfaces and... ringtones! that was really fun and lots of €€€, for the work i put in it. did most of it on trains and in hotel rooms.
but there's something very depressing in this pressure to "deliver" commercial stuff. it sometimes makes me think totally wrong, and produce ugly stuff.. being a "pro" is tricky. can kill a lot of the fun.

lol it's a tax every year of a few hundred to stay upgraded. I could probably talk to my neighbors and set up a scheme where they could pay me to NOT use Live on certain days.

let's not overlook the sick irony of them making a wallet.

Handjob,

We're talking about music not MUZAK.

The OP asked about money in my pocket, not music.

Perhaps reading isn't one of your strong points.

to answer the OP:

Yes. Not a lot, but yes, through teaching, performance, production and sound design.

I look at it as the gear and time Live buys me, not necessarily the money. One four-hour function pays more than a month of the day job, I get a buzz out of the challenge of using Live to do music, video and lighting, and I get tons of free time for fun.

And I don't have the talent, time or desire to contribute to the exponentially-growing mountain of throwaway soundalike electronic music, or to be yet another of the billions of 'real' DJs.

Live has already paid for itself 100+ times over. Lovin' it!

I gave up a lucrative near-7-figure income as a partner in a law firm the day Live 7 came out. Now, it's bitches, blow, and money out the wing-wang, all day long, mother fuckers.

when you say '7 figure' you can't count the digits after the decimal point.
