midi question: using midi notes to control parameters
I'm trying to assign midi notes to various parameters such as send knobs and device on/off switches. I was under the strong impression that I did this before and it worked like a charm the sends opening and closing fully at the press of a midi key.
However, now all they seem to do is twitch and I'm not quite so sure anymore if I maybe was hallucinating that it worked previously. even holding the note continously doesn't help though, same goes for toggling vsts on and off.
any ideas what could be the reason and whether this is actually possible (I could swear it worked before....)?

works like a champ here in Live 7...
I was actually looking to do the same, but currently- MIDI note assigned to a parameter only acts as an on switch (IE- i hit the key once to turn on the parameter and again to turn it off...)
My question:
Is there a way to change that behavior to a key on/off?
(I'd like to see this behavior: hit the MIDI note, the parameter turns on; release the MIDI note, the parameter turns off...)
I know there are assignable launch behaviors for clips... is there any way to assign the behaviors of MIDI notes assigned to parameters? ("gating" in this case...)
if not- consider this a FR!

Not sure if a key can be used in that way as unlike a button, slider or joystick it tends to just be either on or off. That said, if you have a keyboard with velocity and aftertouch it should be able to interprate how you press the key

I've been wondering the same, as on Akai MPD24 you can only map either note on/off or program change -messages to the pads. As with my previous Korg Microkontrol the pads could be assigned to control change -message aswell, so I am missing the "press and hold pad for device on, release pad for device off" -behaviour (great for Live reverb's "freeze" function also).
Are external softwares for converting MIDI messages to something else, the only way to get this? Any recommendation on which one to use for Windows, Bome Midi Translator seem to have lot of features, any simple, tiny software for translating just note on/off to CC message.. ?

I'm having the exact same issue here - trying to get one of the pads on my Trigger Finger to turn a Live device on/off, and it's just twitching on/off when I hit the pad. I have "ctrl mute" switched on, so it's clearly just getting the note data. I've verified that the note is shown as being mapped in the MIDI mapping screen.davec1 wrote:I'm trying to assign midi notes to various parameters such as send knobs and device on/off switches. I've got it working using the 3rd party app MidiStroke to convert the pad to a keystroke, but I'd much rather keep it in Live.
I'm running 6.0.7 - could it be fixed in 6.0.10?

I've solved this problem by creating a clip with automation data, and use the midi note to trigger that clip. The trade off is, it's not dynamic, you can only do one certain kind of automation per clip.
This really helps when you want to do a large series of automations, but don't have enough hands to do it.
Doing this kind of operation with on a midi track is very easy.
However you may find this difficult to do on an audio track. The way I solved this is to send the audio to a midi track, with something that can accept audio. I just use reaktor, and let it pass the audio through. Then whatever FX you want automated, can be mapped with a clip.

I actually ended up finding out that my Trigger Finger wasn't working to send button toggles because I had the IAC bus turned out & it was interfering (that's why the button would turn on & then immediately turn off again).
I did end up trying out Midi Stroke, and it worked fine, but since I'd rather keep everything inside Live I just used the MIDI mapping inside live.
