splitting midi data / custom appregiator

Post by iamausername » Wed May 21, 2008 4:14 am

What I would like to do is use one midi device for note(pitch) and one for velocity and note on/off

the reason for this, is you could then create a custom midi loop to act as the note on/off or the beat of the tune, and use your midi keyboard to control the tune.

so instead of using an appregiator, you are using a midi channel.

is this possible?

the short answer to the part of your question I understand would be, yes you can 'split' midi data using a midi tracks.

One track is your'note input' from some note generating instrument or mid clip.

Then you have 12 other tracks, each of which has a Scale Plugin with only *one note* turned on, a different note for each. All of these are armed and set to take input from the 'note input' track.

at that point you have effectively split all the notes you play to those individual tracks, to send wherever you like.

[edit] this sounds very ungainly, but it is possible. It might even be useful, if you send the input notes through a Scale plug, then have each of the notes split as described above sent thru, say, Chord plugins that are configured for appropriate chords given the corresponding split note positions in the Scale plug setting you are using on your input track.
