Spent a good chunk of the day getting Automap Universal 2.0 working on my Mac with a Novation ReMote SL - including both Sequencer Automap (Template 40 ) and Automap Universal (Template 38 )

Here's the settings that worked for me:-

I had the "offline" problem which brought me to this thread. Here's a solution I found on the Novation answerbase:

If the ReMOTE SL says 'Automap is OFFLINE' or the Automap Universal software says 'No hardware found'.

This may be because the Mac can not see the third MIDI input port from the ReMOTE SL (earlier versions of the ReMOTE SL OS only had 2 MIDI input ports Via USB).

The following steps should resolve this issue;

1. If you havent already, run the latest ReMOTE SL installer to make sure you have the latest OS in your ReMOTE SL.
2. Open Audio MIDI setup. (Mac HD/Applications/Utilities/)
3. Find the ReMOTE SL entry (in the 'MIDI Devices' section)
4. Switch off the ReMOTE SL
5. Highlight the ReMOTE SL entry in Audio MIDI setup, and select the 'Remove Device option'.
6. Switch on the ReMOTE SL (If it doesn't appear automatically, select the 'Rescan MIDI' option).

The ReMOTE SL should now appear with 3 inputs and outputs, and you should be able to use Automap universal.

Hope this helps.

:D hell yeah this helps!!! at least now the Automap Universal software says 'ReMOTE SL connected'... thx rishi!!!
I'm pretty sure the SL will give me some more headaches before I get it working properly...

just to throw it out there... i have not had (or barely had) a problem with my 25 SL since the first day i had it; including updating to automap univ 2.

i have had it be more problematic in logic, as logic needs you to switch between mixer mode and instrument mode inside logic itself for full use of automap.

and to ceniik1: when you are using automap and have an instrument selected (little purple hand is visible on selected device) you should be able to use the buttons on the top right of the unit (up/down arrows). that has worked for me w/out any setup.

just to note i am on a macintosh.

Ableton 7 and Novation Remote Zero SL problems

Post by deep-c » Wed Oct 22, 2008 3:31 pm

OK, it has been several months since my last post regarding the issue of A7 and Novation Remote Zero SL communicating with each other (Offline).

I became tired of trying every method posted to fix the compatibility issue. Has anyone actually got these 2 to talk?
I resorted back to A6 because of this issue; A6 works fine with the Novation, A7 will not.

Anyone have a suggestion ?

Thanks,

Eric

Been working since (before) the very first 7.0 over here.

Actually, I did have the off-line problem for a while, but only with a specific combination of one SL OS version and one subversion of Live 6.0.

I currently use the latest SL OS and Live 7.0.9 without problems, Win XP SP3 (worked with SP2 too). Sure, whenever I switch to another template and then back to template 40, I get an Offline message, but only for a couple of seconds.

All I've ever done to make it work was follow the manual, no extra Voodoo needed. (Well, I obviuosly had to make sure all my SL MIDI ports used MME too.)

Please note that the SL's setup instructions changed when OS 4.x/Automap 2 was introduced. So do download the latest manual and follow that.

I was wondering if anybody could help me. When I select remote sl as the controll surface in the midi/sync pref page I don't get the sl midi ports as options in the input and output windows. Any ideas?
