is avisynth actually that good? virtualdubs great, but avisynth always seemed too complicated i guess... whats the skinny on mpegstreamclip then? is that any good?
AviSynth is the father of all. A true warrior. Once you understand how it works you can start doing magic without having to know how to script. You can apply effects for example, process videos using other peoples' scripts you find from forums and communities or use it for frameserving only. I work in the video industry and AviSynth has given me full working solutions to problems I occasionaly have for free. Most of the times the solutions are even better than spending the money for 'pro' equipment/software. Let's say you want to encode a video but your encoder can only accept .avi input. With AviSynth you don't need to convert it to an intermediate file, you just frameserve it :) while processing it at the same time (assuming you want to process)

I don't know mpegstreamclip. There might be a good reason why I don't :)

...or maybe not

Thanks everyone. I think I have everything I need.

That article is great Oliver. Between that and the other info here I should be in good shape.

Now I basically just have to test and worse case scenario, I'll just throw Apple 30 bucks. What the hell, my iPod got run over and I replaced it with a Sandisk Sansa (fuckin great move!). Apple will get all sad and shit if I don't let em stick their hands in my pocket one more time... One of these days I'll stop sleeping with her...

Peace.
