Is anybody here making hip hop music without sampling?

whaddup mic,

you forgot to post a link. man, i've had melodyne for three years now, but I'll gladly take a look at whatever it is that you're talking about.

How's the record coming?

We should have are website up soon or when ever my partner gets some time he has been busy doing graphics for filthy immegrants. but I will maybe put a couple of songs on my idisk and post them. We are working on 3 projects one of them which should be pressed by the end of the year. We decided on making a break album of original breaks stuff we didnt use but fits in the catagory of breaks it will be called covert breaks I will post a song or two from that and the art for the cover my man did a bang up job on it.

check out melodyne worth every penny go to there website the demo is actually a full tutorial as well. I think you will end up having to pick your jaw off the ground for this one. hey sampling is cool but shit why not do something different with the sample so you cant recognize, making something entirily new. Sculpt the sound like audio clay. look at it this way master artists you know picasso, rembrant, dali etc when they started they copied the masters but after that they broke away and made there art and became the masters. same with music hip hop started sampling disco breaks and shit as it evolved it turned to the jazz masters and masters of funk. now its time to make our own sound, and grow as a art form all of its own. no doubt we are the children of african music shit that will never change but the sound will.

Sorry I get caught up in shit and start going off. Yeah mic I am one of those people who got to be working on several things at once to stay interested I find I am more productive that way. mic if you want to chill sometime pm me we will meet up. I am around alot sitting in front of a computer screen or drawing so anything to break it up for me is welcomed. Back to the subject at hand one fun thing I do when I get board and to exercise the way I do things is I will take a set of sounds and make a basic song doesnt matter it could be anything and I will remix it a couple of times and add things then I will put it on my server just the sounds and a rendered file of the song and let my partner go to work on it without the sequence I made we always come up with some really good stuff I find remixing pre existing elements and making it your own is very good practice and you learn alot about how to make something yours. limitation is the greatest inspiration you give some one 10 keyboards put him to work give another guy one. the guy with the one keyboard is able to focus more on breaking bounderies and is not overwhelmed you feel what I am saying?

zendari,

is there anything else you use melodyne for? Even though I've had it for a few years now, I've only used it a few times. It's a dope program and I'd like to use it more. That humming basslines into it tip is nice--tapping out dope basslines is the weakest part of my game, musically speaking.

I use it all the time say I have a horn sample with a nice riff but its in the wrong key melodyne is my answer say now I want to extend the notes with no artifacts melodyne again. now I want to re arrange the order with ease with out cutting and pasting melodyne again. Since it has a bridge tool I can bounce it all back into logic or live super easy. I think the question you should be asking is what cant I do with it. Since it converts samples into midi data I can take that same horn riff and use one of my synths to play the same riff with the horn. or if i want to replace drum sounds etc etc. Its my best friend and it has its own built in sequencer I can do a majority of that work and put everything on its own track in melodyne and then bounce it down to live. I use it alot to get everything in the same key and then I use it to alter sounds and convert samples to midi data

man, I had no idea that melodyne had advanced to the point where now it could be used as a serioud multitracker. those new (to me) videos on their site are seriously helpful in helping you to see the creative potential in Melodyne. Man, and to think, I almost sold my license recently! :D

Thanks again for the heads up dog!

I think it rewires to Live. Plus, it has something I didn't know about called Melodyne bridge that's really dope! Here's a description from the site:

Thanks to the Melodyne Bridge, Melodyne not only operates in stand-alone mode; it will also function within your existing recording environment, bringing a fantastic array of new possibilities to stimulate your creativity and streamline your work. Whether you’re using the Mac OS or Windows, Melodyne comes to you. You don’t have to meet it halfway.

Emagic Logic, Steinberg Cubase und Nuendo, Digidesign Pro Tools, Cakewalk Sonar, Ableton Live, MotU Digital Performer, Propellerhead Reason and many other applications…

Melodyne integrates elegantly and without latency into all popular MIDI/Audio sequences, supporting all the most common interfaces from VST to RTAS and from DirectX to Audio Unit — not to mention Rewire, ASIO and Core Audio! And Melodyne synchronizes to any configuration via SMPTE or MIDI Clock.
