im really not anticipating Live 8 too much. BUT...
really looking forward to the cycling stuff though... hopefully we'll be able to customize and add some needed functionality to the session view.

Man, not only am I brand new to Live, my copy of 7 is still warm. For that reason I just have no sense of perspective as far as the simplicity of earlier versions vs the complicated nature (?) of 7 (though not without features that many no doubt love).
My hopes for 8 are more along the lines of playing live in Live; which I think forge has posted about in the past? I'd be great to see some of the basic live features that I thought 7 would have, but didn't.

if you're refering to the cycling collab I think that's why they deliberately chose to partner up;beats me wrote:I think any new features in the next Live are going to add a whole new level of geekdom that I don't really need.
not bloating Live with native geek features..
so I don't think Live will get geekier if you don't want to use the geek stuff.. (heck.. I actually like geekness)..
all together I have good hopes that L8 will be the ultimate 'consolidation' issue..
as Gerhard allready hinted in that interview; building upon what's already there, not adding more new.. that seems to be the new route..
but I can understand that consolidating exsisting features is not that sexy; i.o.w. those are not selling features for the masses..
some bells and whistles have to be included..
They've postponed taking care of the serious issues for the years now, (the obvious issues as automation, 128 par. limit, neglecting session, etc.)
not sure if they'll get away with not dealing with those for L8.. although I had the same thoughts prior to 7.. and 6 even..
every year I keep repeating my same disappointment, that I sometimes feel like this as well:
I also agree that Live doesn't hold that simplicity anymore, which is almost inevitable when you add features as for instance drum racks+inline mixer, sub automation lanes, etc..3dot... wrote:I'm on to them... they release 1 feature you need... +lots you don't.
that list up there is good for at least 6 more versions...
the key problem here lies in the fact that the GUI didn't grew along.. too much stuff cramped in the same interface..
so i.m.o. alot of the 'simplicity' will return when the interface radically changes at certain places..
but my main wish/hope is for full arrange>session (and vice versa) integration..
if content between those two could be fully interchangeable......
I'm excited once again that the small handful of essential improvements which I feel Live deperately needs will be implemented...and also fully prepared for the fact that they probably won't be, but instead there will be cool new stuff (C'74) which will make me upgrade anyway.

If you guys are complaining that Live is developing their product too much, you should go visit some other forums where people are screaming about how the manufacturer's don't support their product and never update it and how they're going to get rid of that stupid adflkajsdfl;kajsd any day now.
If Ableton comes out with Live 8 next month, you don't have to buy it. The "arms race" is only as relevant as you make it, if you have tools that work then stick to them and post less, create more

As a DJ, Live 7 disappointed me and I think Live 8 will be the same. There is a huge DJ section in the wishlist, and very few of the issues have yet been addressed.
On the production side of things, Drum Racks are great, and Im quite happy with Live 7.
I foresee more premium content though, and that is annoying.
Ableton! - we dont need more content or instruments. Please fine tune the application to our needs instead!

Live 8????
Im still waiting for a working Live 7 - or at least working external instruments, external fx, with correct clocks, working external midi that doesnt drift, and some autmation parametsr converted to CC for external instruments and fx...
Ie not just working, but working and useful!
Grrrrrrr!

Nothing to see here - move along!
That's exactly why I'm using Logic instead of Live nowforge wrote:m,aybe you dont use many tracks, but I'm finding working in any decent sized project really hard to see what's going on
multi-lane automation doesn't help that at all - in fact I find it way too hard to even use - for me it's much easier to click on the knob I want to edit then have it appear
if you could right click> show all automation for device it would be way more usable, but just getting everything that you want to look at showing is not at all straight forward - you either have to show everything on the entire track, or go through and tediously show them one by one
there are still moments I sit down and feel really inspired about the new features, but most of the time it gets quickly overshadowed by just how much harder the workflow and visual side of things has become
the fact that I am still having to go through and delete all the useless automation, and automation is still such a PITA to work with is really shitty IMO - that should have been fixed well before we got multiple lanes of the shittiness

It was a mistake from me, to expect from Live full DAW functionality. But it is already perfect - in the creative stages of production with session view. When the song is complete, i export the tracks, record the voices and mix them in another host, that is specialized for recording/mixing.

There is one problem with not bloating the program with more and more features: They want to sell the program, and nobody will buy it if it doesn´t have more features than the previous editions. So the knobs sharing the screen real estate will keep getting smaller and smaller... It´s a general problem in todays society. When will the robots finally take over all complex issues, so that we can live our lives like peaceful children?

There's no reason for them to stop developing a great product - not that that's what anybodies saying but...
a lot well known producers still use old ass versions of pro-tools, Cubase, Live etc so it's all good if you're comfortable with staying where you're at or uncomfortable with moving forward
the tools that work for you work for you
me, personally I haven't made much music an the last 3 months - let alone in the last couple years - why? Because I'm a full time student who works part-time ... the good news is I'm having a graduation party June 14th at the house
- but I don't anticipate making much music after that either...I'm going to the UW in the fall and I can see a whole 'nother 2 years going by without a huge massive techno track being produced from my laptop
but that's the way it goes - so I guess I'm not too excited about Live 8 either, really right now the only thing I'm excited about is going to get some espresso @ Vivace and listening to gangsta rap ... and java, I think
