MPK49 Setup Help.

Post by Dologo » Mon May 26, 2008 10:36 pm

Im having alot of problems setting up this keyboard with Live 7(Windows XP) :x

1)Live keeps freezing when the MPK49 is plugged in.

2)Should I set the MPK49 to External? Its set to internal by default.I have it set to Live Lite on the preset on the MPK49.

3)Heres what it looks like under midi settings under the preference tab.Im using the Trigger Finger aswell, but thats working fine.

4)Why do I have 3 USB inputs and outputs under the midi setup section? What ones should I be using? After I find the ones that work should I hit the dump tab?

I really wanna use this keyboard with Live.

If anyone can help me out I would be very greatful. :D

Any feedback would be nice. 8)

TY.

I dont use it for Live anymore but if I remember right you should select mpk in/out too in midi preferences. Off the microsoft softsynth, unless you want to use it. The third midi in/out is of the MPK midi in/out, you could use it for hardware synth or whatever, off if you dont use any. Most of keyboard controllers have 2 sets of in/outs allowing more flexibility, specially if you want to use with more apps
Set the MPK to external to take advantage of note repeat and arp, having them synced to song tempo, of course you may use set to internal if that serves some musical purpose.

Iv tried everything and it still wont work, all it does is freeze up Live so I have to unplug the USB cord,My Trigger Finger work fine.

This controller seems more trouble than its worth,I was so pumped to use it,now im just pissed off!

You think I need to update the Firmware?Maybe Email Akai?

I really wanna use this keyboard,Im so fucking pissed off . :x

Test it with another software, even computer to be sure if it is not hardware fault. Seeing MS synth activated indicates you are not the most midi experienced, perhaps ask some friend to check/set all up.
Maybe you messed the midi drivers-easy fix -download and run M audio or Korg utility to remove all the midi drivers and then install new.
I had some problems with MPK and Live- nobody- Ableton,Akai, myself could find out what the problem might be- Live wouldnt recognise MPK
I found work around-running the Vyzor "wakes" MPK up. Not a big deal, you dont have to do anything with the Vyzor editor just open and close it and MPK works perfectly then, as far as the keys are concerned Novation SL and MPK are the best but for me as Live main controller Faderfox LV2 works the best-reliable and predictable unlike all the China made plasticware.

I've had a similar problem. In my case Ableton will freeze indefinitely on the "starting new live session" message after I start the program so it never fully opens, then will immediately finish opening if I unplug the MPK49. If I plug the MPK back in after Ableton is open, I get a "unrecognized usb device" error through Windows and the board doesn't light up. Then if I close ableton, unplug and replug the MPK it is recognized by Windows but again Ableton freezes when I try to restart it.

I can't seem to figure out a real pattern for how to get it working, it just eventually does if I mess with it long enough. Sometimes opening Vyzex does it, sometimes not. A full restart of the computer doesn't seem to make much difference either, even though the problem appears to be a Windows issue. I thought maybe a midi port was getting stuck in use, or some note was left on that was causing it to hang but a restart should fix it if that was the issue.

It's a real pain because aside from this issue I love the controller and Ableton, and they work together great (once I get it going :P).

Anyone have other ideas or suggestions?

how do,

same here.
i've had the mpk for 6 months and i have had these problems from the begining.
in my xp midi preferences i have wavetable synth, edirol(my audio interface), generic usb and generic usb2. if i set it to the first usb live hangs and if i set to usb2 it seems to work, thats until i got live 8 and now the same problem as come back.
in the live pref's set the control surface to mpk and the in/out to the top usb, no need to press dump.
in the input/output section you will now see the mpk, set these to on.

hope this helps.
and i hope mine starts working again, cause when it does its a great controller.

cheers.

Im gonna go ahead and bump this.

I'm having the same problem. I have a Fast Track Pro, and the MPK49.

My MPK49 will work when I use my computers internal soundcard, but with any other Soundcard (i have tried at least two) the loading screen hangs, and ableton wont load. I have tried all sorts of combinations with boot orders and setups in the sound windows. No luck.

Im running windows XP SP3, with Ableton Live 8 Suite. I don't want to have to resort to running the MPK49 midi out into the Fast Track Pro, alot more cables and power supply to worry about.

They work fine seperately. This is a major problem, and I would really appreciate any contribution any of you could make!

Thanks, Hugh.
