beats me wrote:Pink in The Mission is usually a cool little underground spot with great DJs, but to be avoided on weekends like most of the main SF clubs. They charge double for half the talent of the week nights.

The crowd at Ruby Sky could be compared to a cross between your high school reunion and a wedding reception. It's a place you would most likely hear "Woohoo, I'm wasted!" a half dozen times a night. These are the people that fund the big name artists that play there that most of them haven't even heard of. They'd be there anyway because it's "Ruby fuckin Sky, man! Woo!" It's the only place I've been to where security has taken an almost full drink out of my hand 10 minutes after last call. No warning, no "you need to finish that", just grabbed it and tossed it.

Sure it's a nice historic building but if you are into architecture there's a lot more of that all over SF without the BS crowd.
Exactly! Well said.

no worries, you're on the other side of the planet! just expressing a similar surprise at the user group. it is a cool little shop though, some nice boutique gear in there and it's run by some nice guys. after that go a few doors to the right (as you're leaving) grab a smoked apple sausage at La Rosamunde and take it over to The Toronado and choose which of their hundreds of beers to wash it down with. probably my favorite neighborhood to bar hop in.

uhhh no user groups, just paid classes taught by a guy who doesn't really dig Live (Matt Granachau), don't mean to be a hater, he's a nice guy, a little crazy but nice enough. I took a max class from him when Live 7 was in beta, he really didn't give a shit about Live, now he's teaching the class?!?
Steve Taormine also runs Robotspeak, & as far as I recall is into Live. He's a nice chap too. Good call, by the way.

when you say 'also', you mean he runs The Toronado? I've met the Hungarian guy that runs Rosamunde.

I was in Robotspeak after hours taking a max class, Live 7 was in beta, Logic just did their huge price slash and everyone was all about Logic. I did my little 'yay Live 7' dance but that didn't go far. I took my PC and my hoodie and went home.

Ah, no. He also runs Robotspeak along with the other fellow you mentioned -at least this was always the impression I got. Sorry for the confusion.

I live in SF, not far from Haight/Ashbury. Liberty City is from Grand Theft Auto a game that I've been junking out on lately.

Ah ha! I had a feeling that Liberty City might be from some cyberpunk epic!

I lived in SF for 24 years! I plan on moving back sometime soon. So, how's life in the city?

the town's doing great. pretty well recovered from the dot com boom and bust, housing is still holding but at a weak point, rental prices seem to be chilling a bit. China Basin and South Beach are changing a lot, there's a UC extension out by 3rd and 17th St, all that's changed, the ballpark is pretty cool and has upped that neighborhood a lot (6th St is still shady.) Bay To Breakers was a few weekends ago, freaking insane, I haven't seen that much puking and boobies since college. Crissy Field towards the Golden Gate is also completely redone, it's a nice park now. the museums in the middle of GG Park are redone. the new span of the Bay Bridge is STILL in the works, I wouldn't know, haven't been out of the city for a while. right now we're in that classic spring weather of windy foggy days followed by a few HOT days. oh, and the 49ers might move to Santa Clara. :( bonfires on Ocean Beach are limited to fire rings they installed and only south of GG Park. dunno if you were a fan, but they took down that "17 Reasons" sign on 17th street. local politics are still odd, they want to ban bottled water because of the garbage it makes and the mayor was caught banging his best friend's wife. strange, weird wonderful place to live, love this town.

Thanks for the update. A lot of this is how I left it -some is new. I only moved away a couple of years ago. What do you think of the new museum in GG Park?

I LOVED the "17 Reasons" sign, totally random. Very sad to hear of its demise.

Has Bernal Heights or Portrero Hill changed much in the last few years? How's the Bay View/Hunter's Point doing with the new MUNI service? Wonder how long before that neighborhood is taken over, & everyone who's lived there for years can't afford it anymore...

Yep, SF is a great place. I'm looking forward to returning to my old haunts. It's funny, but after 24 years there, I was tired of the city. But now that I've been away for a few years, I really miss the energy, diversity, & wonder of SF.

I guess I didn't realize just how good I had it there. Unfortunately, this is all to easy to succumb to. But a change of scenery is also a good rejuvenator! So now I'm rarin' to get back to SF & create astounding works of art!
:)

that's really funny about the 17 Reasons sign. when they took it down all of a sudden lots of people were talking about it, I thought I was the only one (17 is my 'lucky number'.)

try a google image search on "17 reasons," quite a few hits.

I went to school in Boulder, CO for the same reason, I was too comfortable here, I wanted to catch what the rest of the country was up to. I saw it and got home sick real fast, I'm bay area to the bone, I'm just not native CA.
