Dell 510m

anyone use one of these for Live?

i had a inspiron 8200 and the audio was pretty rough (lots of interference, mains hum)....i'm wondering if the 510m is any better.

i know this is a little off-topic so apologies in advance.

What are the specs? I have an Inspirion 8600 and yes I had the hum issue but a 3>2 prong converter for the power cord illiminates the hum. I use an Echo Indigo DJ for my soundcard and it works out great.

Based on the history of posts concerning Dell laptops (here and other forums) I would say the hum is an issue that all Dell laptops face. But like I said the 3>2 prong converter gets rid of the hum 100% It is also known that the 1394 port (firewire) shares IRQ's with the PC card slot so if you want to use a firewire hdd, or audiointerface you will need to get a firewire port on PC card. Or just use USB. I'll go look at the specs @Dell.

I don't see it @ their website. There is a 600m but no 510m

it's this one. might be a euro model. from the specs i see i think it's probably worth it (my friend can get a cheap deal thro work)

hi guys.
i have a inspiron 8200 too. hums and interference come from the AC adapter. to avoid this you have to get rid of the ground which is best done by manipulating a cable extension cutting the ground off.

if that is done, the sound will be completely clear!

maybe thats for a lot of laptops usefull!

Is there an equal unit in Europe? Isn't it risky to lift the "ground" while connected to the wall outlet?

I'm living in Sweden and I'm having the same sound disturbance problems with my DELL Inspiron 5100 when using active monitors (Tannoy Reveal 50W). As soon as I disconnect the AC adapter it's fine, in with it and my speakers say "crrrrrkkkkkkwwwrrrrhhhhh....." which isn't funny.

Knowing almost nothing about the issue I called the DELL technical support and a guy sent me another AC adapter just to make sure it wasn't the problem with the old one. Another call and he couldn't help me any more, he couldn't come up with any other solution. I've been looking around and people at the Dell forum had a solution in a PC DI by Whirlwind which costs $129.95

OK, nice, but having to pay that money just to get rid of something that DELL should've taken care of at the first place....
