Richie Hawtin now using two laptops and a mixer...
anyway, there are several reasons why one would prefer using Traktor instead of Live. my main reason is being able to have a huge library of tracks to choose from, being able to choose whenever I want. being able to get them ready to mix almost on the fly is very important. i may have a set list i've been working on for a gig, but when i actually get to the gig and you start to feel the vibe of how the party is going, it's good to be able to reach into your hard drive and pull out something that wasn't planned in the first place, and mix it on the fly. it's that immediacy that makes Traktor my choice for djing. maybe it's the same reason a lot of Traktor user choose it...
maybe he was checking his emails?Verbal wrote:I don't think he uses the ctrl mixer anymore. At least it doesn't look like it in all the videos on YouTube.drush wrote:one machine is traktor, the other is Live for efx and the occasional loop. mostly efx. and mostly the Lexicon PSP 42, at that. big part of the reason to keep doing this is his very customized ctrl92 a&h mixer is already built to do that & control things in the manner he prefers.
oh and i wouldn't call him a diehard turntable user. the last 2-3 years it's probably fair to say he's been a reluctant turntable user. it's just that he's been around for 17 years or so.
And like I mentioned, he only used the 2nd laptop once during the 30-45 minutes I was watching him. I doubt it was for efx or clip triggering.

Do you truly feel that your opinion matters?Olga wrote:Richie Hawtin + Music. lol What toilet paper does he use to make his mindless 909 + blip dog shit?
Its like fucking NEXT.
Richie Hawtins wack ass music has about as much funk & soul as a Luftwaffe pilot.
Don't like it? Don't listen to it. Babbling on about it like an idiot just makes you look like.......an idiot.
I saw him perform this past Saturday in Los Angeles; I fought my way to the front and had a chance to see him work it for his entire set.
He's running Traktor Scratch on his Macbook Pro and using it to play full tracks. He always had 2 tracks running, sometimes 3 and sometimes 4.
The other Black Macbook ran live and it was essentially used as an EFX unit. He was using FX1 send/return on his Xone 92.
Other equipment included 2 Xone 1D's; One to control Traktor and the other to control the effects on his other laptop.
And just fyi, i've never seen anybody work it so hard. Fucking impressive.....

this is the 2nd person i've seen do this, first being liebing. i wonder why they aren't using the 3d instead. certainly isn't $. and i doubt it's form factor for traveling. isn't a 92 + two 1Ds the same thing as a 3d?Simo wrote: Other equipment included 2 Xone 1D's; One to control Traktor and the other to control the effects on his other laptop.
not at all. The possibilities are quite insane when you have multiple crossfaders going on.drush wrote:this is the 2nd person i've seen do this, first being liebing. i wonder why they aren't using the 3d instead. certainly isn't $. and i doubt it's form factor for traveling. isn't a 92 + two 1Ds the same thing as a 3d?Simo wrote: Other equipment included 2 Xone 1D's; One to control Traktor and the other to control the effects on his other laptop.
I saw Liebing with Speedy J and they must have had 4 1Ds or even 5 on stage
EDIT: that would be "2Ds"

so you're talking about the 2D then. no crossfader (or audio..) on the 1D.Machinate wrote:not at all. you can loop on the fly with livebeats me wrote:Live and Traktor are 2 totally different programs. With Live you are pretty locked in with what you are going to do with your tracks. Traktor is close traditional DJing with the added ability to jump around tracks and loop. Live can't loop on the fly the way Traktor does. There's other differences but I'm too lazy to list them all.
I still don't know why he'd run Traktor through Live though if that is what he's doing.
