Working with logic,

hi guys, i was wondering if there is a way to use my logic midi instruments in ableton live.

then maybe play them in ableton, to have it loop aferwards?

also, is there a way to have a click track coming out of my computer and into my drummers ear - whist the computer also goes through a PA? so only the drummer can hear the click?

I've messed around with Soundflower http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower and yeah, it should allow you to send in what plays in Logic into Live and then do whatever the hell you want with it there as Audio.
I find it to be a pain in the ass though having to bounce from the Logic screen to Ableton just to get this done...
In order for this to work nicely, I think I need another monitor, possibly another MIDI control...

I haven't messed with this too much...

And yeah, if you just set up a click (which doesn't have to be a click per say) in Logic or Live and pop it on a track, you can route that track where you want.

hmm, ok so does that make a logic instrument simply a ableton instrument?

maybe instead there is a way to import my logic plugins (eg. vanguard) into ableton?

because i want to trigger backing loops in ableton, whilst playing synths over the top - so whats the best way to do this?

how do i route a track? and how would i have my computer going to both a PA and headphones - i only have one socket!

What Soundflower does is allow you to send Logic's outputs into Live's inputs. You'll be able to send audio from Logic to Live. You can create the audio in Logic however you want (MIDI, samples in sample editor, etc...) but you're only going to be able to manipulate in Live as Audio.

I haven't figured out the best way for me to do a "one man band" type thing yet, but I'm still getting the hang of all of it.

As far as your drummer goes:

You're going to want to look into getting a soundcard/audio interface with multiple output channels. This will allow you to send the click track thru the headphones, and then route the main outputs to wherever you're sending them (main speakers maybe).

alright, calm down - i just dont know anything about soundcards or what to do with them in ableton. and if you did then it would save me alot of time, for a second of yours - isn't that the point of this forum!

Do a search for soundcards on this forum by going through the search function at the top of the page.

Go to tweakheadz.com, they have polls there on which cards users like best. And then you can always just go to guitarcenter.com or musiciansfriend.com/sweetwater.com and see what they have to sell. Those usually have reviews attached to them also

i'm quite confused here - all i need to do is make sure only the drummer can hear the metronome - so i dont understand how something is better at doing that than something else! Or why it would take a few hundred pounds!

Check out the Live manual on chapter 12. That should give you a good idea on exactly what you need, and you won't have to shell out more than is necessary.
