can hear and sequence the midi, but cannot "record"

yep... a noob question.

So I understand how to send audio signals/channels to the master for eventual rendering, but I cannot send the midi channels to the master.

So while I can play and sequence my midi stuff, and hear it through my speakers (M-audio box), I cannot "record" it anywhere.

I am focusing on the output settings on each midi channel, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

Am simply trying to record a couple of midi-based ideas so i can share with my band.

you mean bounce the midi to another track?
copy the midi clip to another clip

or

create a new midi track and set its input to the midi track to want to record.

Wait wait wait.

is this MIDI Track inside live playing a VST instrument, or is MIDi getting sent back to a Hardware synth?

If the latter, you need to actually record the Audio coming out of the hardware synth into Live. (MIDI is just notes, like sheet music, after all. you can't stick sheet music in a CD player, only CDs).

If the former, then Live _should_ automatically include that sound when you hit "render", and if not, then you have something routed improperly.

So I leave you with a question: you say you can hear some sound through your speakers. How is it getting there? Through a synthesizer+a mixer, or straight out of your computer?
