Can a Macbook run Live 5?

Post by Digi V » Thu Jun 05, 2008 9:58 am

Ok, so i let my buddy try out live 5 in order for him to see if he wanted to purchase live 7.

He says it barely runs decently on his macbook. what gives? i thought the macbooks were capable of running live at reasonable rates. there is so much latency it is barely workable.

I'm not sure about this, but i think it has to be one of the later versions of live 5 to be universal binary, other wise it will run under rosetta and it will be exactly as you discribe

You must run version 5.2, it's UB.

Version 7 has will run even better due to the multicore/multiprocessor support.

there is also the problem with Airport at the moment... you need to switch that off.

I am able to run 24 tracks with loads of effects with no problems on my macbook.

MacBook run perfect with Ableton 6 & 7 with no problem, but i had friend who faced the same problem with ableton 5 on his mac book, but i don't think so it has to do something with software at slef, its the sound card latnecy !

em, 5 arnt multicore support either

so how ever 5 runs, know that 7 will run smoother.
i run 7 on my macbook
2.16Ghz and 2Gb of RAM

no problems ever,
running all NI plugins and Albino3 and all those big heavy ones, and no problems

BTW, there is a HUGE performance increase on Intel Macs when you upgrade from 5.22 to 6.
