I have not seen anything special between Live 4.0.1 and 4.0.3 (MacOSX 10.3.5). Use the latest drivers, they still have some issues on the MacOSX side, but are stable enough. Don't know about Windows, not using that.

PS: Please complain to M-Audio and ask them to fix the audio level issue when shutting down the computer, the ugly loud sound peak going through m y reference monitors when shutting down is not fun to hear.

crashes of Live4 ...latencie have to be around 20ms to avoid crackels...not too nice...
It smells a bit like a problem with the interface...But it there can be of cause another source for the problem...
I ve to find it quickly...
Other question...
Are there people with the same Laptop model running the firewire 410 with Live 4? what are your latencie settings?

HI Phase

I am running the same set up with you but with the older 867 G4. I have had some nasty "drop outs" of sound on live gigs which are scaring me. It doesn't crash or quit but "freezes" for a moment and audio stops. This never happened with Live 3 ever. I have a gig for 1500 people on saturday and want to fix it quick!

sorry a bit more info:

This is sometimes with a very low CPU (19%) and all effects off. It can be during just playing one clip. It is more frequent when sending remote information from my Evolution UC33 midi controller but not independant. latency is 12ms output 24ms overall. In a 1 1/2 hour set happened 6 times. I checked the recording (DAT).

dj wulf, have you tried turning on the activity monitor? You can find it in utilities.. I've noticed at times, that while live may say i'm using a very small amount of the cpu, the activity monitor shows something completely different. I don't think Live takes into consideration all the tasks your computer is performing. The activity monitor does. You can set up the activity monitor to display in the bottom left of your screen, so you can see it even while running live as full screen.
This is just a thought. You might be surprised by what your computer is really doing.

I have the same Problem as DJ Wulf. Dropouts,Crackle(3-4 sec.) in Live 4 with my M-Audio Firewire 410(newest Driver, Mac OS 10.3.5, Powerbook 867Mhz). The Problem occurs only in Live 4 and did not happen in previous version or other Software.

I checked around ...i cant say about the crashes but it seems that Live 4 still has some general problems regarding the communication with the mididrivers... I hope there will be an update soon..
I think to use Live 3 for livegigs inbetween

Add me to the list of people experiencing these problems.

I'm running WinXP on a 1.3Ghz Centrino Labtop (Acer) and a Firewire 410. I also have an Edirol PCR30.

At first I was running the 410 at 256 samples with nice low latency and it seemed to be fine for awhile. Then I started noticing Crackles and artifacts. This happened mostly when the interface was doing something somewhat graphically intensive, like drawing a wave, switching between session and arrange view, zooming, etc.

Anyway, I switched to 512 samples and it seemed to fix the issue.

Yesterday I added an extra 512MB of RAM to my machine. When I fired up Live, running at 512 samples, the problem was back and worse then before! I had to set the buffer size to 1024 samples to get it to work. Its like its getting progressively worse? How could adding more RAM make things worse?

Anyway, it definitely seems like an interface issue as the artifacts and crackles only happen when its changing things in the display.

A couple of things I have tried unsuccessfully to alleviate the problem:
Switched performance options between foreground and background process priority.
Turned off windows display features.
Killing as many unneed processes as possible.

Any one else have hints on how to alleviate the problem?

p.s.
I got this problem running something as simple as a Single MIDI track with Impulse, so I don't think its a simple performance issue (it may be a compound performance issue, where the graphics card can't handle rendering and it effects the audio, or something like that).

Live 4.03 w/M-Audio 1814 (similar problems)

Post by victhrill » Mon Oct 04, 2004 8:18 am

I am sitting here with a brand new G4 PowerBook 17", 1.5 Ghz chip, 2GB RAM, FW 1814, Live 4.03 and I've got loads of problems! I actually have (2) 1814's, the second which I got from my dealer to make sure I did not have a lemon and they're both screwy. I also use Reason and Logic but have no problems there really. I don't know who to point the finger at, but this card with this version of Live ain't working. I get crackling when playing the program all of the time that also effects the recordings, my latency needs major correction and sometimes it crashes. Anyone know what the problem is syncing to other computers? I didn't have it with Live 3 in earlier versions of OSX.

ebinary on the Sonar forum mentioned that he closes the lid of his laptop when running live as Live's graphic redraw can cause dropouts (he appears to load a song into a scene then runs the scenes from his midi-controllor, so doesn't need the screen to show).

Try closing the lid and see if you still get the crackles...
