track delay limitations

Could someone please give an accurate explanation of what routing scenarios cause Live to disable track delay and why?

In my case it seems to be a Return track that's the culprit. I saw someone mention that it has to do with feedback loops, but I'd like to understand why exactly Live won't allow track delay in certain situations.

Since I'm depending on the track delay feature, this handicaps my routing options, etc.

No explanation in the manual, couldn't find one here either yet...
