Scrub thru preview

Post by secretagentgel » Tue Jun 10, 2008 9:31 pm

When using Ableton to DJ, I'm often previewing a track in the browser on the left. Is there a way to scrub thru the track without dragging it into a scene? Half the time the intro is useless to tell if it's the right track. Makes sense to me that you should be able to scrub thru the preview count down that appears below the clip panel, but... nope. Feature request? Some other work around?

Cheers,

Corey

No way that I know of without loading the track into a slot. That's one reason why I use Traktor to DJ instead :)

...assuming the songs are already pre-'warped'...
you can drag any clip to a 'cue' channel...
and have a midi control mapped either to 'clip start' or the space between the 'nudge' buttons...

while a track is previewing in the browser, you are able to ctrl+drag the main time counter (next to the play/stop/record) up the top and it will scroll through the track.

only if u have stuff in the arrangement view (i dont use this feature much as most of my stuff is in arrangment so i may be wrong).. so if u got clips playin in the session view and that's all u may be in the clear.

it's like this very very very limited case scenario -

when you'd like to preview what it would sound like later on, if you dragged this clip into a set, lined up to the 1.1.1...

Okay, so it sounds like the answer is no. Thanks for all the replies. Def a feature request for the Ableton cats.

So I know this might be a tad bit late... But I think I found a possible solution. If you set up multiple "decks" and map the nudge controls (or scrub if you can figure that out) to a midi controller (for example my Behringer X-Touch has rewind and fast-forward buttons) and it will nudge for only the waveform you have selected. If you set up main and cue outputs like in your master you are able to "preview" tracks before you let the audience hear. Hope this helps you and any others that have a similar problem.
