Copper?

Andreas and I went shopping once in one of those big electronic consumer stores.
They only sold gold plated ethernet cables. It wasn't 500$, but it was also some absurd amount for a very short cable.

No point in getting them. The ports on our computers are plastic and metal.. It just doesn't match

do the people that buy this high end shit not realize what most people use to make albums with? most people now just use an ok interface and a computer,
i wonder what makes people that fall for this audiophile crap think an album is going to sound more like itself on there gear than it did on the pawnshop junk
used in the studio.
who the here has ever seen any of this crap in a studio (let alone a home studio )

Best quote ever, and I'm really sad I can't remember where from, was a guy working at an audio store took the highest priced speaker cables he could and plugged them into the left speaker, then took two coat hangers, and plugged them into the right speaker. None of the customers could tell which channel had the coat hangers for speaker cable.

Electricity doesn't get 'dirtied' by cheap cable, ( it's not 'sound' going through the wire ) modern myth and a funny one IMO.

I've seen power conditioners and inch thick audio cables at a mastering studio I used to work at and in that environment the difference is noticeable.

it absolutely does not. digital is digital, a 1 is a 1, a 0 is a 0.

power conditioner - sure, to be safe and keep electrical noise to a minimum.

if you mean analog signals, then sure, but only because you're framing it in the context of a high end listening environment, which by definition is a place where you can hear at extreme levels. in 99.9999999999% of studios (home and pro) it doesn't matter.

sorry, I'm one of those guys who rants against this kind of misinformation.

Good vibrations, Bad vibrations it’s all about vibrations!! RAM would like to introduce a new signature level knob developed for the mighty Silver Rock potentiometer. The standard bakelite knob is certainly the best sounding compromise... but now Audio Consulting has taken this aspect of the Silver Rock much further. The new knobs are custom made with beech wood and bronze where the bronze is used as the insert to mount to the stem of the volume pot. The beech wood is coated several times with C37 lacquer for best sound as pointed out by Dieter Ennemoser. How can this make a difference??? Well, hearing is believing as we always say. The sound becomes much more open and free flowing with a nice improvement in resolution. Dynamics are better and overall naturalness is improved. Here is a test for all you Silver Rock owners. Try removing the bakelite knobs and listen. You will be shocked by this! The signature knobs will have an even greater effect…really amazing! The point here is the micro vibrations created by the volume pots and knobs find their way into the delicate signal path and cause degradation (Bad vibrations equal bad sound). With the signature knobs micro vibrations from the C37 concept of wood, bronze and the lacquer itself compensate for the volume pots and provide (Good Vibrations) our ear/brain combination like to hear…way better sound!!
