Preview Loops

Is there any way to configure how these get played from my browser?
most importantly the volume... such as acid's preview fader in the mixer...

Search for Preview Volume Knob in the manual, aka Cue Volume.

Apart from the volume, there's not much you can do with the browser previewing. Preferences lets you choose whether they are played warped to the current tempo or not, but that's about it...
