Good advice!Khazul wrote:Helll - who cares - chill out and enjoy what your doing. If you keep worrying about trying to be completely new - you will never get anything done and probably never find what 'your thing' is...
What new can we do?
What I'm really really hoping for is web based DAWs of your choice along with third party plug-ins. Companies could even make more money by offering web based versions for a little extra money and maybe even a monthly subscription. This means you can collaborate on projects without constantly uploading and downloading huge files that only have minor changes from the previous version. You could just login to the server, make all your adjustments, add new audio files and anybody that has access to the song can do the same without having to download anything and you don't have to worry about anybody having the same third party plugs. Everything would be there for anybody with access.
Ultimately this could also lead to doing live performances with multiple people at completely different venues at the same time.

This sounds like a cool idea for Live Electronic music -
Build, or get someone else to build a sort of MIDI controller in the form of a punching bag or somethign that would work when you hit it, and it would change samples or sample start or whatever, like punching it would change slices with the Amen or something, OR build a huge Crank type thing and spinning it would change freqquencies or something,
this idea (with huge Midi contrrollers) would be ideally to give your music some power and perspective, and not confuse people when they see huge sounds coming out of a a tiny small laptop. It just doesnt make sense.
Does anyone do this yet? besides that on guy i think his name is Daedelus, but a monome is still too controllery and not so much artistic like the idea i have above (hopefully)

I'd be all for a punching bag that could trigger the sounds of explosions, glass breaking, screaming, crying, and begging for mercy. I think it would be the next best release since internet porn.Clockpulse wrote:This sounds like a cool idea for Live Electronic music -

but yes, big midi controllers are very cool. We are developing a line of arcade-button activated suitcase controllers right now - should be good for staying "animated" on stage!
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.

Dance Dance Revolution mat, the soft kind, just wrap it around a post in your home or put it on the wall and punch away.
"monome is still too controllery and not so much artistic" - wha?
[rant]IMO all this is just DJ masturbation. it's not about you, it's about the music. the DJ should be up in the booth, unnoticed but with his/hew eye on the crowd. what's this pill DJs take that makes them such attention whores? it's not like launching clips is fun or interesting to watch, learn a real instrument, this is simpleton stuff when it comes to performance. play a full drum set on stage, that's talent.[/rant]

kewl, I'm a fanboy and it's monday morning.Clockpulse wrote:i meant, it's just not really active, (not artistic) wrong word, sorry.
besides the monome is sweet as hell
and with my comment on DJs being in the background... TBH it's a new world, I think people are used to watching a DJ, that's what people want. that comment was me being an old fart, but I still believe it.

I agree some DJ's overstep their bounds, only to prove themselves wankers, but i think Electronic MUSICIANS are a breed apart i guess, and with people like Daedelus or others who are implementing new and exciting devices into their acts are i think refreshing and on the rise hopefullyTone Deft wrote:kewl, I'm a fanboy and it's monday morning.Clockpulse wrote:i meant, it's just not really active, (not artistic) wrong word, sorry.
besides the monome is sweet as hellthe aesthetics of the monome are pretty cool, IMO, strange little device.

For me, the trend is very evident:
everything is going the way of "Collective" and "Collective Intelligence" in other Words Web 2.0 etc. It's easy to see that DAWs will def. be Web Aware, and that filters and fx and even instruments will depend on crowd input or distant collabs. This is abstract right now. In 2018 there should be plenty of concrete examples.
That's all I'll venture, since, honestly, I really dislike doing the crystal ball thing. It is my belief that it actually encumbers your creativity. 0.01 + 0.01,

I think it is interesting that everyone is commenting on how the performer, either as a musician or as a DJ or as a collective, is the future sound of electronic music. Evolving the performance aspect is definitely the style of the time. But all those who say to not worry about tomorrow and just play around today, that sounds pretty good too. I just had a really good piece of chicken.
Very true, the most creative things I've ever done came about though not thinking or pre-planning at all, in fact I recon it's just about impossible to musically improvise at all if your thinking mind is engaged. You definitely need the knowlege of the instrument, the years of practise and musical study etc but to really improvise with it you have to completely let go of your rational mind. Software hasn't reached that point for me yet but overall it's why I use Live, cos it's the closest yet.Mesmer wrote: That's all I'll venture, since, honestly, I really dislike doing the crystal ball thing.
