what do u suggest?!

Post by lu-k » Sat Jun 14, 2008 9:59 am

hi guyz...
i posted here coz i need some tips from some of u out there!!!

i m trying to use live for djing...
now...i ve been djing for more than 10yrs and i ve always used just records...now for reasons that i m not going to write u here coz u might get bored...i decided to pass on ableton...how someone else would say...i decided to become a digital dj...

the problem... i know that i could use my sounds and mix those all togheter...but i dont think all my tracks r at that level, thats why i wanted to use other ppl tracks and play as dj... but just press play and mix...its too boring for me...i know someone could say that mixing with records is almost the same... but still with records u need to do something, with this great software...just press play...

so...what i m looking for r some tips or ideas or whatever else is in ur head to make this thing creative!!!
i tried to cut all the trcks in different parts and play those as loops, mixing those in different way...but i didnt really like it...probably my fault...eheh..

looking forward ur help guyz!!!!

thnks!

Do reedits on the fly. Divide the track into pieces, rearrange them, mix new elements, add fx.... lots of things possible here.

Be creative. Bring unexpected elements, fit them to your style and create a whole new thing that completely sound like... YOU.

I'm trying to start this dj thing with live as well.

I too am scared of the push a button and cue up the next song.

a couple of things i've done:

added intruments to my sets. i have an effected microphone channel, bass channel, and a kaossilator. i don't use them much yet, but the potential is insane.

added some drum racks, and beefed up the orignal drums.

added a loop channel to add new drumloops to mix with songs, or loop part of a song to mix into other songs.

stopped using a crossfader.

use lots of effects. my favorite being hp/lp filters and beat repeat.

my set up lets me control loops in a way that i can mix out of a set into a pretty sweet live improvised jam, then back out, or, with some practice, i could probably pull off some decent remixes improvised live.

live is a completly different beast than other djing stuff i've seen, and should be used as an entirely new way to dj, as apposed to just another method of djing. the creative possibilities are endless.

Got a video here, showing how we use Live, live.

I wouldn't call it DJ'ing, tho.
