alternate triggering clips in same channel
alternate triggering clips in same channel
I have a drum pad assigned to trigger the highlighted clip in a channel. There are two clips in the actual channel (both snare ghost notes). How would I set it up so that when the pad is hit it will play the first clip and the next time the pad is hit it will play the 2nd clip, then the first the next time and so on. I'm pretty sure this can be done but cant seem to wrap my head around it.
Alternatively, is there a way to do this with each clip on an individual channel, from one pad. The reason i ask this is that , having both clips on the same channel may cause a clip to end abruptly if the drumpadd is played very quickly repeatedly.

ah ha, i had a similar situation answered for me the other day, i wanted to play a cycle of 3 notes with one button.. so you could engineer this trick to work for you:
You would first have to midi map say C to clip1 and C# to clip 2.
Then in that chain, select a midi device and add a random plug in, but turn the chance to 100% and then select scale to 1 and choices to 2 and change to ALT mode.
now if you set your trigger to output C the same as you designated for your clip 1, and then now when you press that button, it will output C, then C#, then C, then C#..
Does that work ?

then you'd have to re-route the midi back into live, via midiyoke or IACchrisedmo wrote:ah ha, i had a similar situation answered for me the other day, i wanted to play a cycle of 3 notes with one button.. so you could engineer this trick to work for you:

hmm, well i think if you assign clip 1 o channel 1 to C and clip2 on channel 2 to C#
but set the midi on channel 2 to be received from channel 1's midi (which will have the random plug on, this should do it, but you'd have to turn looping off for the clips otherwise they wont stop.. and maybe play with the launch settings of the clip to gate or something just incase.. ?

I'm not really sure if you can do that exactly the way youre thinking, but here are some ideas.
#1
Control Aid allows you to do this with it's "clip fill mode". Control Aid is Mac only.
#2
A rack idea that could get the job done. Put your samples into a drum rack, so each one gets it's own simpler. Then Use a "random" midi effect, set the "chance" to 100, "choices" to 2, "scale" to 1, "mode" to "alt", and "sign' to "add".
Set the first simpler to receive whatever midi note you want to trigger it with, and the alternate sample one half step higher. (so: "C2" and "C#2)
When they're in a a drum rack the notes don't cut each other off in less you set it to "choke". This way you don't need an additional channel.
TADA! (i hope)

That'll do it.. so im glad my idea wasn't completely redundant.Jekblad wrote:A rack idea that could get the job done. Put your samples into a drum rack, so each one gets it's own simpler. it's just that internal midi plays notes, not control things. (such as launching clip slots)chrisedmo wrote:hmm, well i think if you assign clip 1 o channel 1 to C and clip2 on channel 2 to C#

seems like this rack variation is up the right alley
Yeah that definitely worksd. Now here is my next question. I am essentially taking a processed break and cutting it up so it can be played on a drum pad. now the above was for all the ghost notes/other notes besides the snare and kick of the break. Is ther anyway I can add the kick and snare into the same drum rack with out the random effect affecting the kick and snare. Ideally i would like o be able to flip thru different breaks but trigger the similar samples in each break. i.e. the kick and snare always being outside of the Random midi effect. Hopefully that is somewhat clear.Jekblad wrote:I'm not really sure if you can do that exactly the way youre thinking, but here are some ideas.
