Fix Live 7 first fer chrissakes ! And if we don't get an annual release in September-Dec of 2008 and have to wait a while longer, i say GREAT !
(even though I love the Abes and Live 7 is awesome for me)
Delaying the release of a new version costs Ableton income though so they won't want to hang around - Live 8 will generate a lot of sales for them even if some (or most) people think its a crock of shit.

You've always got the option of not upgrading as well.

meef, I am not suggesting you personally are a number chaser, and if you didn't feel L7 was a worthy upgrade yet then all power to you.

jonny - I understand about Ableton's income streams, but it should also be understood that a lot of people blindly upgraded to L7 and are having major issues, not least with certain controllers not working and the CPU usage. I'm fortunate that this hasn't really affected me.

But next time around, some people are going to a lot more reluctant to shell out for an unfinished product. Ableton rush released an unfinished Live 7 in early December to catch the Christmas sales and just 6 months later some people (not inferring you Meef) are already having money burn a hole in their pocket wanting a new version. Ableton could have waited until March and taken that extra time to have a more professional and stable Live 7 and had a lot less discontent and if they repeat that mistake, I think they'll suffer lost business next time around. Also logistics such as the manual printer breaking down and taking too many advanced orders and not having enough staff to process them in a timely manner which occurred are other lessons to be learned from.

Of course, not upgrading is an option too but for me, I needed the features in Live 7 such as sidechaining and rex support and being that I qualify for educational version prices, it's a good deal.

Yes I think they have overcomplicated their product range and pricing.

I payed for and own both Sampler and Operator, and I still believe they should come as part of Live.

I'm in no hurry for Live Penis Suite.

i own the 7 download sute and i tend to just play with live 6 more often because i got more done on it and i worried about what makes my ears happy instead of the othe small stuff.

plus my cpu meter wasnt going off the charts as it is in live 7.

live6+sampler+operator+v station+record collection=all i need to get by.

I have it from a reliable source that this year the Ableton team, in a brilliant marketing strategy (since their partnership with Cycling 74), will coincide the release of it's totally redesigned flagship product Live 8...

...with the launch of the summer Olympics 8-08-08!

Eight stunning new instruments will be added to the package too! For free!

same things have been said for every version that I know of, the release version # coincides with the year but they always seem to release around late October.

actually some of these tw@s probably have a Live 8 alpha and one of said tw@s dropped a tiny hint a few days ago.

if history shows, 8 will be a tighter version of 7 with some new toys, like 6 was to 5.

hopefully they'll do something with Drum Racks and the File Manglement System, both of those features are poorly done, IMO.

maybe when they come out with the 'glitchless user.' but I do agree, L7 can be tightened up, no doubt. runs great on my system, I'm lucky, or I'm the only one not surfing donkey pron on their DAW.

software is inherently buggy, computers do EXACTLY what humans tell them to do, there's no hope.

edited because I totally fuctup and put my latter post into this one.

Uh oh, leisure and Tone, a pair of consummate pros that I have no stamina to refute, lol. But, of all the software i've used, PT and Logic have certainly been glitchless and i've gone to the ends of the earth to get my live app to not hiccup. Should I buy 7?, is it really tighter? You dudes have 0 glitching? or just tolerable. No worries though, i'm not gonna labor the point, i've burnt that out at posts: 100.

didn't mean to disrespect your uber cred, put your dick away. :P

the average user is a hobbyist, with the same computer for all their needs and a limited knowledge of drivers, OSes, and all that. you have to think that SOME problems with L7 not working are user error. someone whose job depends on their DAW probably isn't going to have Live as their sole DAW.

also, people aren't going to scream bloody murder that L7 runs great on their system, compared to some of the dr0ma queens we have around here. the impression of how stable it is is skewed.

would I recommend it to you? probably not, you have sidechained effects, the 64 bit summing is bullshit, drum racks are easily replaced with anything sane, and there are alternatives to Spectrum.
