so i guess i shouldn't buy Live 7?

First things first, I'm a PC user. (3ghz OC'd Q6600 on a GA-EP35-DS3L with a bunch of ram and a bunch of hard drives, XP32bit, 1212M, UAD)

I've been using Live Lite 7 (M-Audio enhanced version) for a few days and I was about to pull the trigger on the full version, but...

There is A LOT of negativity on this forum with regards to version 7. Since version 6 is no longer available and I'm a first time (possible) buyer, I don't know what to do.

I love the session view. Period. Everything has been running well, but I'm afraid of spending $349 and everything taking a big s**t. Although, much of the negativity seems to be coming from vets who have been waiting a long time for certain features, which I have yet to wait for at all. Is the glitchiness and bugginess really beyond the scope of any other software? People are complaining that it's bloated. Reaper is not bloated, but there's no session view. Not to mention my extreme interest and enthusiasm regarding launching clips from a midi foot controller.

So, my question is simple. Is now a bad time to get on board? I can't seem to find an alternative, so...

thing is, we complain about what we want, but we still use and love the software - it just doesn't make a lot of sense to go on here and say we love it all, innit?

Just buy it already ! If you like it, you won't regret it. I'm running it on a Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz laptop, and make sure you have 2 GB of Ram and get yourself an external HDD or a 2nd internal HDD for streaming audio etc. This is advice I would give to any other DAW user too.

Forums will always have negativity. Take a look at the cubase.net forum and you'll see a LOT more discontent (and they usually delete and lock overly negative threads too, something Ableton don't do).

No-one is going to have a 100% seamless experience with any software but Live 7 has been just as solid as Live 6 was for me. People tend not to praise software on forums but do use it as a vehicle to express concerns and problems, the % of totally dissatisfied Live 7 users is pretty small, although we all have individual needs and wants and feature requests for the next version, which againis NORMAL.

Reaper is certainly a lighter footprint than any DAW and is a very nice audio system but it lacks in other areas, such as MIDI and like all trad linear DAWS is a lot less flexible for composing/arranging than Live with it's session view and auditioning clips beat matched on the fly, etc.

People may complain that a certain feature isn't in the app, but if all those features were added I bet you would see more complaints!

I've seen a (very) few people have complain that they get glitchy sound for some reason, but if you have used a lite version of Live 7 and you don't have any of those issues then I suggest that L7 itself will be OK.

Wow, if I had known Live 7 was the key to getting a life, I would have bought it a long time ago! I sure could use a life! Thanks, buddy. Seriously! No, I mean it!

I hear what you guys are saying, but there are some folks that seem to consider 7 a catastrophic failure compared to 6. Like things got a lot worse somehow...

i haven't had any problems with 7 since i upgraded a few months ago. GLitchyness? Buggyness? not anymore than any other software i've used. but different systems are different, i suppose, maybe i'm just lucky or maintain my computer better than the average cunt that posts here.

There simply isn't another piece of software available that is better at creating and performing electronic music. Trust me, the instant there is something better for it, i'll be there.

Electronic isn't really my bag. I listen to it and some of my material has "electronic" inflections, but it is a small percentage of what I do.

I split most of my time between songy-song, instrumental funk/fusion, and radio/tv jingle type stuff.

I have been using linear sequencers for years, but arranging and rearranging is a pain in the ass that I'm officially tired of. I dismissed Live for a long time as a tool for electronic musicians and dj's, but I'm finding it suprisingly "organic."

Some people have a need for more features in any version and will continue to desire more features until the end of time...

There's now perfect program out there, IMHO. Buy it now, use it and enjoy it.

people said the same exact thing about 6 and 5.

when 4 came out we were a bit more under the radar, but there were complaints then too.

Steeve - I'm going to be straight up. You need to filter out 80% of what you read on the forums (not just the Ableton forum). Weed out the whiners, complainers, newbies who don't really take the time to explore the program, and listen to the folks who actually use the program in a serious manner. Doesn't matter which forum you go to (Apple, Steinberg, Digidesign, Propellerheads) there is always one thing in common - there is an influx of wannabe-hobbyist riff-raff users, people who really don't care, or some losers that have nothing better to do than sit on forums all day complaining about XYZ application.

I can't speak on behalf of guys like Machinate, Sweetjesus, Nebulae, etc, but I use Ableton Live daily and we are all Live veterans. Is Live perfect? Nope, nothing is. But in my opinion it's the leader of DAWs and Live 7 is a killer program.

Live 7 is a lot better than Live 6. It's not a catastophic failure. It's worth the money, believe me. Try the demo with all of Live's instruments included. If you have catastrophic problems with it, don't buy it. If you don't, buy it.

I have moved from 6 to 7 and I didn't look back. I noticed that CPU wise Live 7 hits a little bit more, but the new features and the new audio engine are totally worth it IMHO
So if I were you I would buy it.
