audio interfaces

Post by Matgret » Mon Oct 04, 2004 1:49 pm

to whom it may concern

Ive recently bought a FW410 and have had a whole load of problems regarding synch. It simply doesnt like XP or my computer and M-audio have given up on me. SOoooo, ive sold it, and am looking to replace it. I dont mind spending a little more as im desperate to haev a working system...
Im using an Advent laptop with one of those KMD 3000+ 64 chips, with 512RAM. this is all just about good enough im sure. I use cubase SX, reason and ableton live. I would like something to provide me with low latency as timing when triggering samples is vital. Also something to allow me to some ameteur recording of my band would be great so 4inputs would b ideal.

im sorry to load this on you but its really frustrating when u just dont know what is good and what isnt. i really hope you can give me some good advice.

thanks in advance

Matt

I too gave up M audio because of lousy drivers and latency, when I pay I dont like to be Beta tester. Indigo DJ or I/O depending on your needs give you low latency and no problems. If you dont mind having bigger unit and spending more money RME.

Look at the esi quatafire 610, smaller, cheaper, more simoultaneous ins and it´s not m-audio!

You can never go wrong with the MOTU 828 MKII. Costs a little more, but it is a solid interface. Do a search in this forum, and you will see LOTS of info on people's experience with it.

Draff is right on there...
You cannot beat the MOTU 828 MkII. Get away from those pro-sumer 4in 10out cards! That is simply not a professional I/O format, and is really limiting your capabilities when you try to do some serious multitracking...
Spend the extra cash, and it will be worth it to have a truly professional interface with decent converters, low latency, massive I/O, and good expandability. PM me if you have any questions about the 828MkII, I would be happy to help.
I cant think of a sig

have you tried the asio4all driver with your FW410?

If not, its worth a shot - its free and it may give you better (lower) latency.

adamjay.
hi.
i can go to 2ms latency with my edirol, recording all 10 channels in 24 bit / 96 kHz simultaneously without any problems. even monitoring vst fx is working. i use cubase sx2 for this.
the quality of the sound is very good and its just a handy thing this edirol fa101.

cheers, spacy

thanks guys, the MOTU is just that little bit north of my price range so how does everone feel about the Edirol FA101 and the ESi QuataFire 610... im gonna go do a search for people moaning about these cards, something i should have done before i bought the FW410!

Thanks guys

Matt
