Who still not use Live as main sequencing soft?
Who still not use Live as main sequencing software....everytime i jam with live i find something i like but still i miss advance audio editing like in cubase.
After finally finding how to emulate off line process in live i though i would finally change to live but still i havent.
Basically id like to know what stops u from switching to live ??? assuming u use another sequencer.

i usually make most of my track in Reason then rewire what i've got to Live, I may add some midi and audio clips after that. I have yet to play live as an electronic solo act, but i guess It would be like I'm DJ'ing my own music while turning knobs. I've got it figured out in my head...just let the Reason track play and i'll sprinkle some sounds on top and also tweak some others. make any sense?

I guess on this forum you'll meet really few people that have not switched or are not using live...
I use live for sequencing, recording, mixing and living,
but I assume I find the midi editor and the lack of real audio editor to be weaknesses,
in old times I used to love cubase and logic's editors and creative tools...
but Live is good, simple, it works and I don't ask him more for the moment
cheers

No i dont ask live for more...i wish live had folder tracks and audio editing or at least a plug in like FL studio "edison". My question was because i fell live so easy and creativity appealing, i would like to sitch but theres something that has stopped me, perhaps i should work a week with live only, no cubase at all.

I have never really gotten into any other sequencing software (before this I was all hardware). I am just curious what the advanced audio editing features Cubase has that Abe lacks?computercontrolled wrote:....everytime i jam with live i find something i like but still i miss advance audio editing like in cubase.

I started with Live and then converted to Cubase for a couple years. I am back in Live. The audio editing and MIDI editing are too expensive to list (check out the Cubase manual). However, I expect some minor improvements to editing in Live and am willing to live with the imperfections for now, for the sake of simplicity. The Drag and Drop, Freeze, and relative lack of glut make Live so much better than Cubase.contakt321 wrote:I have never really gotten into any other sequencing software (before this I was all hardware). I've also been getting into the simplicity of Live's instruments of late, finding I can do more with less in some ways.
Of course, I can always rewire to Cubase if I need to. Sometimes I'll finish projects in Cubase for that reason. I'll also use Sound Forge if needing to edit something also. I've never complained about the MIDI editing, only the lack of good audio editing.
I don't see why anyone wouldn't be using live for the complete writing and performing process of making music. When you're ready to master and do advanced editing, record your whole song (in single tracks) into Pro Tools (which you can simply rewire).
Along the way I'll use Reaktor and Reason for their synths and drum machines, but Live is the Grand Central Station.
Nothing faster and easier...

I am slowly starting to use Live exclusively again. For a while there I quit using Live and went over to Logic 8 but it's still way too buggy and some of their highly bragged about features simply don't work correctly yet. I'm back to Live but this latency is killing me. In Logic I can set my apogee duet at 256ms and record and mix all day long with no problems. If I try to set it that low in Live I get pops and clicks, so I set it a little higher and I can't record because of the latency. This is driving me nuts!!!

Good thread.
Live's MIDI editor cannot handle tracks in multiple time signatures. That is, if you have a MIDI track with changing time signatures, you cannot edit it easily in the MIDI editor - the MIDI editor does NOT reflect the changing meter. This makes editing really inconvenient and, in some cases, all but impossible. I use Cubase when I'm faced with this.

Most advanced or dumbest - a pretty stark choice.
Perhaps I didn't explain it properly or maybe my terminology is incorrect. Of course it could also be that you've never encountered a piece of music which changes time signatures.
The arrangement view allows you to insert time signature changes. However, if you draw in a MIDI clip, say to add a drum part, when you open that MIDI clip, the time signature changes are not there - you have to edit the whole part in one time signature. Right now, I'm working on a drum part for a track which changes time signature each measure. In order to do this in Live, I'd either have to have a different MIDI clip for each measure, or keep track of how many 16th notes away from the the beginning I am. As it's a long tune (around 250 measures), neither of these solutions is practical.
