Ableton 8 for debian/ubuntu?
Ableton 8 for debian/ubuntu?
XP, is usable OS but VISTA no, and i think the windows 7 its the same ugly monster vista OS.
whats up when XP REACH THE END OF LIFE?
Its absolutly clear windows put the focus on office, home, and gammers.
Professional audio not have space under windows, no without torubles or non stable systems.
Please lauch ABleton compatible with LINUX AND IF POSSIBLE DEBIAN/ UBUNTU
Its time have real OS ALTERNATIVE TO OSX, ONLY linux can be real stable alternative.
Its time leave windows !!!!
For the same price i pay for macbook pro, i can buy here on my county wonderfull DELL XPS M1730 NOTEBOK , REALLY GREAT MACHINE WITH SUPER GREAT SPEC FOR PRODUCE MUSIC.....BUT I FORCED TO INSTALL HACKED OSX, OR NON STABLE XP.......why? do this when have lot of linux distro with exelene performance!!
I love to see Apple some day launch OSX for PCS, or Ableton available for linux !!

ive used vista a bit and havent found it a major problem for media and i know a lot of media people who have switched over to vista..
what's your specific issues with these OS's that millions use without any dilemma?
Yea windows used by millions......... you think that make better?........the answer should be yes........with OS TESTED BY MILLIONS arround the world, shoud be the more stable OS, but that not true........why? just because windows its really bad product. Work but is bad.
This are my major troubles:
XP CRASH ANY RANDOM TIMES (ON LIVE GIGs) OR:
ITS ABSOLUTLY NORMAL HAVE AUDIO GLITCHES ALL TIME,
I BUYED HIGH NUMBER OF POPULAR SOUND CARDS MODELLS AND TESTED....... ALLWAYS THE SAME
Just that, 2 very important thing to me, specially when i have gigs all fridays and saturdays all weeks of my life........
Sorry but XP not stable, and i see the same with all users use XP..........NEVER HAVE THAT TROUBLES WITH OSX.
Why I JUST not use OSX well i use but have my hands chains to expensive apple hardware.
Widows is used by millions, but millions no need and not use realtime audio aplications and milliones not have 2 or 3 gigs per week.
I not want sound arrogant please uderstand.
Check the setup of all pro djs/musician/producers.............you see everybody use apple with osx......and please dont think is a geek thing.......its real OSX IS BETTER OS for critical enviroment like in same way linux is.
im happy with OSX BUT LINUX CAN BE REAL ALTERNATIVE, FREE AND STABLE !!
WHY NOT?
Vista really sucks, im tired of make lot of test always same result, vista not ok for pro adio appz. specially when make rookie usage of the audio appz, vista start act very bad.

I love Apple OSX but not really love the hardware apple sell, i think the market have great and cheap alternatives from dell or other vendors.......in lot of sitations more powerfull at half of price.
I repeat i think at this time LINUX DISTROS LIKE debian or Ubuntu are mature for companys like ableton.
is another alternative why not? everybody read this post just forgot my troubles, with windows and focus your minds in this points: inux is free, linux is secure, linux no virus spyware, is mature product, and really more stable OS compared with windows.........i ask again..........why not?

sorry to hear you're having issues with xp but xp has been rock solid for me for years. gig's, production...not a hitch
are you using the dell laptop you quoted earlier with xp? those models are only set-up for use with vista from the factory. if you are running xp on one of them then you're asking for trouble..

no my situation lunabass, i have audio glitches in apple machine running xp, on dell, sony, acer, self builded quad core, differents sound cards etc etc
last machine i tested dell xps 1730, lot of audio troubles xp an vista, i installe hacked copy of OSX.......AND MAGICALLY all troubles just gone.......same on my quad core...
swetjesus know i love test nw hardware and new setups jijiji....
...........but again:

i no want start another large post about WIN VS MAC
I think the major trouble under linux is vst, but i think f big company like ableton put the eyes on something like ubuntu, other companys do the same....so vst limitation can be skiped faster.
Is my wish after use OSX, for the last 4 years, and linux on my server company form year 1998 and like my desktop with ubuntu from the last 2 months.
oh and microsoft OSes from DOS 4 in the ends of 80s

By this point there are very few problems with XP as a super stable platform. My audio XP PC hasnt crashed in over two years. Maybe you should take your computer to some sort of technician if its so flaky?
or better yet, why not spend your time adding to the efforts made in WINE with Live? thats as close as youll get to Linux live in the near future?
wine not good idea like virtualizarion never is the best and never be the best for realtime critical applications, just that.
about tech, well i have hosting company from year 96 work wth windows from first version etc etc, i no need tech, thankyou........and same results with different notebook desktops.
Port ableton OSX version to debian distro not is absolut hard like you think mr adventurepants_, anyway,.... yes i know that rest time and mantain 3 OS versions of ableton live can be really more hard and that can be the major reason for no make this..........i think......
note: when i comment is time to leave windows.............i make reference to me jijiji not to everybody jijiji, if you like many others are happy with win.........great for you guys i just wish and love another alternative to windows and osx
I really love to listen some day opinion about ABLETON LINUX PORT FROM ROBERT HENKE.

Get real, nobody will spend their resources developing software to be used by elite.
If you wrote looking for solutions here you go:
1. get a Mac
2. get XP notebook from music notebook specialist
3. get quality pc hardware- Sony or IBM and get it set by somebody who knows what he is doing.
If you earn your living with it you have to spend little more then regular consumer.
I wouldnt ever buy Dell but if at all dont buy consumer model, look at small business section and choose there.
There is some extra hype/fashion margin but if you look at similar components used and build quality the difference between Mac and quality PC is not much.
Seems to me you want Kia to perform like BMW and complain to Shell about their gasoline .
Most of problems, crashes on stage are caused by vibrations, noise and overheating- take precautions accordingly. Frankly neither myself or any of my friends who use computers professionally ever had any crashes due to any other reason then heat and bass (spilling liquids is another story) Mac and/or PC. My only bad crashing experience was with M audio Ozonic, which using car analogy would be like running into a cow, hardly car manufacturer fault.
XP Pro is probably the best OS for music ever, the advantage over OSX is the it can be custom set, the OSX advantage is that it does not have to be set (and looks pretty).
Ableton and other software companies are not evil or stupid, they just cannot afford it, it is a matter of surviving in this industry.

Here's how to make a rock-solid Windows DAW:
1. Format hard drive
2. Reinstall Windows (From a legit copy)
3. Update Windows completely (DO NOT go to any website other than windowsupdate.microsoft.com)
4. Install all drivers, making sure all hardware is compatible (Only go to hardware manufacturers' websites if you need drivers, do not use a search engine)
5. Install Live (A legit copy)
6. Install any other applications you need. (NO BETAS OR PIRATED SOFTWARE)
7. Create a backup of the drive using your favorite software. Store in a safe place.
8. Take the network card out of the computer and never put it on the internet again.

Right. So, well, please direct me to the stable, supported linux drivers for my audio hardware. There already is one proper OS, and that's OSX.
Live + M4L, MacBookPro & Ultralite mk3. Plugins from Softube, Soundtoys, Eventide, 2CAudio, Cytomic, AudioDamage, OhmForce, FabFilter, SonicCharge, Waves, MadronaLabs, NI and ExpertSleepers. Oh, and a bunch of hardware... =D
