Post by drunkn_ninja » Sun Jun 22, 2008 6:45 am

does anyone know any good VSTs to get some nice string sounds like violins or maybe even more exotic like a sitar?

cheers

For strings that are undeniably synthy I like VSM (Virtual String Machine) by GForce. Prett much everything they make is awesome. I also like the strings in nexus. As for sample libraries for real sounding strings the one by Vienna Symphonic sounds pretty awesome.

String theory by Ugo is a great modelling synth. Good for making exotic stringy sounds. BTW it is free.

if you're looking for realism, big library sampling is the best bet (Vienna Library, Ableton Orchestral Instruments, etc.... ), although modeling is getting nicer and nicer. AAS have been kicking ass at that for a while but a friend just hipped me to these 2, both use modeling specifically for orchestral sounds -

and from the demos, they sound pretty nice.

AAS String Studio, sounds nice and with some tweaking you can get that "human touch"...specially in acustic guitars and acustic basses.
