7.07/7.05 - Live suddenly spontaneously disappears

Post by Vance » Wed Jun 25, 2008 5:00 am

Working on a couple different projects, Live will at random points just suddenly disappear... no crash dialogue box, no system freezing up, just "poof" and it's gone in an instant...

Has been happening in 7.05 and 7.07, but possibly before that as well (may not have been paying attention to it properly back then)... anyone else having the same issue? It mostly just happens at a random point in time, sometimes when you're doing something in Live, sometimes when you're playing with another plug, sometimes when it's just sitting there playing back...

Occasionally it happens when using Aixcoustic Electri-q, having it open and playing with the GUI sometimes makes this crash happen, but it also happens in projects where Electri-q is on an insert but I'm not playing with the GUI at all...

Should also add that when you restart Live after it's disappeared, it will say "Live crashed while working on X would you like to recover?" only about 50% of the time... the other 50% it just restarts as normal and everything you've done between the last save and the crash is lost...

Anyone else having this issue? Feels like it could be Electri-q (it's quite buggy in other ways too) but I'm pretty sure it's happening on other projects which don't have that plugin in them... any thoughts?

I have the same problem, but Live is still running. If you right click on the task bar and click Task Manager, then in Task manager look at Processes, I see Live running and I cant right click and force the process to close.

The only way to kill the process is to reboot the machine. Ive asked in a support thread if theres any way of capturing whats going on. The log file doesnt have anything unusual in it, so either theres an exception not being caught somewhere before Live has a chance to log.

Only way Ive found around it is to keep restoring my system to a time just after I installed Live, which is a real pain in the a$$.

I was looking to purchase this program, a friend had me bring my MPC over and we were jamming like mad!

Then this issue happened to him. So... kinda goes without saying, I won't be buying this until I get a confirmation that it's been corrected or explained how to work around it.

I checked with him, seems he narrowed it down to Battery 3 causing the issue. Of course, not using Battery 3 is the work around.

Boing!

Hey folks, i'm experiencing the exact same crash and have reported it to Ableton. No resolution yet.

Just wondering if anybody else experiencing this problem had fixed it yet?

Cheers

Jake

Live was disappearing on me too until i figured out that any N.I plugin i used was the culprit..Since getting rid of N.I plugins i have had no crashes..nothing,everything perfect..uninstall any N.I product and then give it another try....worked for me anyway.

I get it occasionally too and live by my Native Instruments plug-ins

Why can't Ableton and NI just get along?!!!

Can definitely confirm this is still present in 7.09b2, has been happening to me all day...

And I don't actually think it's related to any 3rd party plugin at all, it happened to me one time in a project which had 1 audio track, 1 midi track (with nothing on it) and no plugins of any kind, either built-in Ableton ones or 3rd party ones...

Anyone had any luck with figuring out what causes it?

Still happening for me in 7.09... it seems to be happening less often (for whatever reason) but it's definitely still happening...

Exactly the same thing has been happening to me for ages... It's a real pain. It's actually caused me to use ProTools instead of Live, which sucks for the creative flow, and means I've lost a fair few tunes that were almost finished. I'm using version 6.0.10, was going to buy version 7, but am not going near it unless this problem has been solved...
