avg + sygate + router with MAC & IP filters = no problems hereMesmer wrote: win xp users, who beleive an AV and some cheezy laughable home-brand firewall is gonna keep the monsters out
wait, did I just prove my point or yours??
That's probably because your graphics driver is not open source, was it Nvidia? I think you get less problems using new ATI cards, definitely if Intel as the drivers are open. It's very frustrating, update Ubuntu, break the graphics drivers. They do seem to have cracked that with Hardy Heron though, have you tried it yet? Ubuntu's just getting better with every release.longjohns wrote:I tried to change some video settings in ubuntu. always seemed to require a reboot to take effect.

not stable
The reboot was always unnecessary but I suppose it was the easiest way... And anyways, I think it's fixed. They're working a lot on these things.longjohns wrote:I tried to change some video settings in ubuntu. always seemed to require a reboot to take effect.

Yep, now hard working on mac version of my software : )ava wrote:Can anyone please tell me, what's the problems with vista??
Is this some joke?
The last I can remember , grobe was making some Single touch midi screen software and intended to use "WINDOWS EMBEDDED", now heys a mac...
After 6 months I bet there would be some sort of "soundflower" or "midi-ox" type thing, sitting in between you Linux host and a wine vst-host module; these would provide you with virtual midi and/or audio ports to get the signals in and out of your treasured plugins.Idonotlikebroccoli wrote:Let's say Live does get ported to Linux. not stable
@MesmerYes, probably should get one of those. I'm at work now, just had somebody (a fairly fierce sales lady) come up to me and ask me for help with a new computer she's about to buy as she's a complete beginner, aparently it's one of those fantastic new mac things! Oh, the irony. I told her I know nothing about them and won't be able to help. It probably is the best choice for her though and I expect she'll love it.

ok. i support the live under linux idea, but really.Dj-Grobe wrote:Yea windows used by millions......... you think that make better?........the answer should be yes........with OS TESTED BY MILLIONS arround the world, shoud be the more stable OS, but that not true........why? just because windows its really bad product. Work but is bad.
This are my major troubles:
XP CRASH ANY RANDOM TIMES (ON LIVE GIGs) OR:
ITS ABSOLUTLY NORMAL HAVE AUDIO GLITCHES ALL TIME,
I BUYED HIGH NUMBER OF POPULAR SOUND CARDS MODELLS AND TESTED....... ALLWAYS THE SAME
Just that, 2 very important thing to me, specially when i have gigs all fridays and saturdays all weeks of my life........
Sorry but XP not stable, and i see the same with all users use XP..........NEVER HAVE THAT TROUBLES WITH OSX.
Why I JUST not use OSX well i use but have my hands chains to expensive apple hardware.
Widows is used by millions, but millions no need and not use realtime audio aplications and milliones not have 2 or 3 gigs per week.
I not want sound arrogant please uderstand.
Check the setup of all pro djs/musician/producers.............you see everybody use apple with osx......and please dont think is a geek thing.......its real OSX IS BETTER OS for critical enviroment like in same way linux is.
im happy with OSX BUT LINUX CAN BE REAL ALTERNATIVE, FREE AND STABLE !!
WHY NOT?
Vista really sucks, im tired of make lot of test always same result, vista not ok for pro adio appz. specially when make rookie usage of the audio appz, vista start act very bad.
I love Apple OSX but not really love the hardware apple sell, i think the market have great and cheap alternatives from dell or other vendors.......in lot of sitations more powerfull at half of price.
I repeat i think at this time LINUX DISTROS LIKE debian or Ubuntu are mature for companys like ableton.
is another alternative why not? everybody read this post just forgot my troubles, with windows and focus your minds in this points: inux is free, linux is secure, linux no virus spyware, is mature product, and really more stable OS compared with windows.........i ask again..........why not?
