Any other dual monitor geeks here?

Post by Machinate » Thu Jun 26, 2008 10:59 am

I have been on 2x22" for a while now, and I am loving it, except for the enormous amount of space being hogged on my desk.

So I gave in, and will be getting one of these next week! - Does anyone here have experience with these rigs? pros/cons? The price of the stand isn't exactly trivial, so it has to be worth my while... cheers.

that's a kinda neat solution, but personally i'd go for two separate mounts with adjustable swing arms... they'd take up less space on the desk, and give you a lot more freedom to position the monitors in different configurations...

and Pitch Black, what an ergonomic masterpiece that is! Is that a kiddie-table? ;)

@fishmonkey, I hear what you're saying, but in my experience swing arms are a real space-killer too - but I really would enjoy the flexibility a lot I guess.
My main concern is how to arrange two of these units to work in concert properly.

I think I have actually found the solution for me - one thing I have wanted to do for a while was the vertically stacked monitors. This solution will allow that, and quite a few others, too:

I've been working with dual 19" screens for the past two years and I'm now about to leave that particular studio and start up my own.

I've been thinking of getting one massive screen (like the Dell 27" fella) rather than two because the bevel annoys me.

What do people think about that sort of solution?

Usually it's a lot more expensive, the resolution is lower (the dell in question is only 1920 x 1200 - same as most 24 inch models, yet you can have two of those for the same price.

Also, the reason for me bringing up the "stand" issue is that displays take up soo much space on a table - that 27" certainly is no exception.

Reg. the bevel, well I don't really span processes across screens, I am more likely to, for instance, run the vvvv patching area on one screen and then have the GL render on the second - that way the bevel doesn't matter. Or Live's session view on one display and the plugins on the second.

Also, worth noting that some displays have huge bevels where others have very small ones.
