combating my acoustic problems.

first thing im wondering

how far out from the wall sould your speakers be?

i imagine its relative to how far your seating position is from teh front of the speaker

is there a simple formula?

pi

stick foam blocks to the wall behind them. same with corners, corners do mean things to audio.

yeah i know corners like to eat all sound and then vomit it for bearkfast

also any rule on how far out from corners?

and when you say pi

you mean a ratio of 1 : 3.14???

so every foot away from the wall my face should be 3.14 feet frm the monitor?

thing is, it's feet in the US but meters in Ireland. that's why there are more studios here, we don't need as large of a room.

are you hearing bad audio? what are your monitors resting on? pics?

well deft ireland has been using meters about a year now

tahts why all teh studio just went away

see i had a studio.thanks to moving house all the shit is just in my bedroom at the moment
thinking of moving into a larger mostly unused room

the speakers will be raised off a table
and i just wanted to know about distances to start planning

bad audio.. perhaps
just want optimum response

gotcha.

perfectly square rooms are the worst, rectangular is only slightly less worse, the room is probably one of the two, do what you can to disrupt that.

couches and big soft chairs absorb sound so it can't bounce around.
rug on the floor

have your monitors float in the air (resting on foam) or standing on something very solid, it's the in between area that makes for bad sound.

monitors should be at ear level.

set it up, put on music you know well and listen for aberrations from what it should sound like.

would you recomend running the short or long lenght of a rectangular room,

ie your monitors backs against the longest or shortest?

all teh rest i know,
got some stuff for taking readings of the room and gonna try get foam to suit

jsut doign alot of mixing work recently instead of creating and now seems as good a time as any to fix my acoustic problems

I'd run the short length because then the monitors are wider and there's more room to walk around left-right when I play.

I guess the long way would be better for reflections, that is, reflections would bounce off of more stuff and die off.

for the most part, it won't matter. if you've got *nice* pre-amps and *nice* monitors and play loud then it might matter more. but I understand you're doing the work up front, asking the questions.

AFAIK, the answer is whatever feels good to you, the minute details don't matter, you're not setting up Abbey Road Studios.

well using NS 10's at the moment, trying to scrape some cash together for genelecs
as soon as i can

thanks ill try placing them at teh different setups and see what sounds best.

but if i make a sign and a fake website..

charge people who dont know better permium prices to sign in my bathtub ill be rich

get the genelecs but put them into the NS10's casing, people will pay more to listen to yellow cones.
