My new song:

Tell me what you think about it.
Got Me Loose!
hey Fatticus, i liked your song. Very cool use of gating and distortion, etc. The only thing is I kept feeling like there was an even better song happening in the background that I was missing, if only it would have been up front and uninterrupted. It sounds like there's well thought out melodies going on back there, but they never come to life! Maybe adding a nice clean bassline to go with the dirty and/or a more constant beat (like through the gates too) would help?
Or is it just the way you intended it? It is thought provoking music!

Sounds great. love the instruments and overall song.
I like my songs to move along pretty quick which may not be your thing, but here are my views anyway!
The first 30 seconds are great. I would drop the big beats in at about 0:30 or at the latest 0:48. I think leaving it till 1:20 is too late.
The bass drum could be louder in the mix.
The main bass synth is too far left for me.
In general I would half the length of all your phrases to keep it more engaging.
You have lots of different arrangements there which all sound great but I feel it is lacking in different instruments.
Also I think the bass riff should jump into something more upbeat and quick mid song to liven it up. Like the bass in Waters Of Nazareth at 1:07.
Overall though I really like what you have there. especially the start. I think it's well worth the work.
Have you got any other stuff online?
PS - Have a listen to Bag Raiders (http://www.myspace.com/bagraiders). It may be more pop than what you are going for but I love how much they fit into a short song. (Fun Punk, Nil By Mouth)

Thanks for the ideas. I've listened to it with fresh ears, and I'll think about potential changes. The only thing I'm not certain about is getting my kick to punch through the mix. I've tried tinkering with levels and sidechaining and the like, but it just gets covered up.
I don't have any other new material online, although I do have this MySpace of crude songs I made in FL when I was about fifteen:

Oh, a friend of mine linked me to a song I made a while back. I had just started using Ableton and I was still trying to learn how to EQ properly (guess I still am), so the quality isn't so hot. It clips badly in some spots. I've been meaning to work on it more because I like it a lot, but I haven't gotten around to it.
