definitely not a preset....i've tried sampling synth tones and then doing looping in sampler, but it doesn't ever get that heavy modulated sawtooth sound.

if it were possible to set up the looper in sampler to loop accodring to time rather than samples, i think it might be possible. does anyone know if sampler can do that?

heres my best guess.

sounds to like a distorted square wav with several slightly atonal samples looped at different rates played along with it, theres also a white noise with the filter responding to keytracking.

but how does it all blend together so well on the pitch bends? to me it sounds like an actual 'patch' with a really involved modulation matrix. any other guesses?

eh..... to me it sounds like samples looping with oscillators under them, I could be wrong, either way it's a very complex sound simply because it cross such a huge range of frequencies. the only synth I know of that could possilbly sound like that on their on is MAYBE massive. though I'm not hugely familiar with massive but the little time I spent with it made me think it could do something like this.

I'd say it's several synths/samplers layered together which follow one MIDI pattern.

But the challenge says: "Effect chain" not multilayered samples.

alright, related question:
is it possible to make a sampler loop the same amount of time regardless of what pitch is being played? because to me that's what it sounds like it's doing. if it's looping samples, the modulation would sound slower on the low notes and much faster on the highs, yes?

Sounds like one of two things to me:
either

a patch in a multi-osc synth, where some osc are just standard square, saw etc, and one uses sample(s) which loop and keytrack as mentioned.

or

a patch in a nulti-osc synth where the loop sound is actually an oscillator with an lfo that responds to keytracking. I think an lfo controlling volume or pitch or filter and some overdrive on the osc could something like that layer.
