Any Nord Micro Modular Users on here?

Post by alexanderbeetle » Sun Jul 06, 2008 3:40 pm

I've just picked up a second hand Micro Modular, and am really struggling to get to grips with some of the most basic functions. After tearing my hair out to get the thing to communicate with the (Clavia BETA) editor, I've managed to get that working. I cannot however get the Nomad Editor to work, but do I really need to bother with this? It looks quite nice, but are there many other advantages? I've installed the .jar files etc, and it's recognising the MIDI ports ('connection settings') on my computer, but the 'settings' are all grayed out and I can't seem to get anywhere with it beyond this point. I'm on OSX btw.

Also, and much more importantly, how do I connect up a MIDI keyboard to the Micro Mod? I have a couple of keyboards (a Juno 106 and a Novation Remote SL) and I've connected both their MIDI outs to the MIDI in of the Micro Mod and tried flicking through all the different MIDI channels to get them to communicate, but I can't seem to get anything. I'm sure I'm just doing something stupid, but I can't for the life of me work out what.

Thanks in advance!

PS. On boot-up the display reads 3.0, which I am assuming to be the OS version. I see that 3.03 is the latest version, but on a two digit display I can't tell whether I am up to date. I have tried to use the updater from the Clavia site anyway, but on launch it tells me that the 'classic environment is no longer supported' so can't be run. Is the file now redundant? Is there an updater for OSX users, or am I going to have to find another machine to use (if I need to update at all)?

Nord Modular G1 user here. I'm on Win XP so i can't say anything about OSX related issues with Nomad or the Classic editor.

If you don't know.......
here is THE place for NM related info's ,archives, patches.... > http://electro-music.com/forum/forum-94.html
I cannot however get the Nomad Editor to work, but do I really need
to bother with this? It looks quite nice, but are there many other
advantages? I've installed the .jar files etc, and it's recognising the MIDI ports ('connection settings') on my computer, but the 'settings' are all

Nomad is great in it's concept (randomization of modules/groups, coloring of
modules, saveable/exchangeable modulegroups, etc..)
but it's very buggy and a pain to use - sadly...but they're working on it.

Also, and much more importantly, how do I connect up a MIDI
keyboard to the Micro Mod? I have a couple of keyboards (a Juno 106 and a
Novation Remote SL) and I've connected both their MIDI outs to the MIDI in
of the Micro Mod and tried flicking through all the different MIDI channels to
get them to communicate, but I can't seem to get anything. I'm sure I'm

there's a PC in/out and a Midi in/out on your micro mod. connect the midi
keyboard's midi out to the midi in. set the keyboards out channel to 1 (3-4
for the other slots) to play the first slot. In the NM editor go to Synth
settings to set the midi channel for each slot due to your keyboards settings.
make sure your actual NM patch has got a keyboard module as Note and velocity input.
(refer to your manual for module
reference)

no clue about the software update for OSX.....ask at the above mentioned forum and you'll be fine.

Have fun with your Micro Mod. they're really great machines! love mine !

You need a midi provider package but it was still completely wonky on osx. I vaguely remember getting it to work but it still wouldn't do anything useful. The unsupported clavia editor worked better even though it would crash all the time.

I wouldn't be too worried. The 3.0.3 update is neary 10 years old and I would be surprised to see a MM without it.

Just hit the Wrench icon on the bottom left to check the midi settings then hit the orange triangle to connect the Micro.

Then if you change presets on the micro, they should open in Nomad.

Nomad just seems way more polished and user friendly than the Clavia editor and I've had no problems with it in OS X.
GO VEGAN!!! - Macbook Air, Bass Station II, Some Korg shit, Live Suite, U-He, Audio Damage, Microtonic, Ohmicide, more soft stuffs, awesome controllers, euro rack modular synth,an awesome cat.

after all my excitement about the new features of Nomad, i was quite disappointed
as i experienced lost connections and some missing features. Mainly the lack
of direct load patches into the nord as i browse them. Also you can't turn knobs
vertically, which turns me off in a long patching session. I don't want to bash
Nomad and i really appreciate the work of the developers, but i prefer the
classic editor by far.

look here for more info's on Nomad > http://electro-music.com/forum/forum-138.html

ho god! we have a walker here!
googling nord micro modular not powering up got me this 4 years dead thread
so my micro modular just decided to not power up

i tested 3 other working PSU
i opened it up and tried to apply power directly to the solder pins of the power jack, nothing

are these known to just blow?

could that be just the big input cap that is dead?

it was working fine, i power cycled the whole rig and then nothing, no lights Sad

any help would be appreciated

Why not connect all 4 midi ins/outs to a midi interface and play it from Live(or any DAW)with the editor going along too. This is how I have it setup and can play any synth in my studio from my controller though I have the editor running on my G4. I had the Micro manual out last night(oh those Logic modules) in an effort to get back to using it a bit more.
