Can't hear track volume changes in cue phones???

Post by satyrnicus » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:12 am

Greetings compadres!

I have a noob question that probably has a simple fix, but it's driving me mad nonetheless.

I have my Fast Track Pro set up for the 1/2 outputs going to the PA and the 3/4 outputs going to my headphones so I can hear a click track along with several of the other tracks.

A couple of my songs have parts when I need to manually sweep the volume down on some synth loops. When I set my Oxygen 49's slider to that track's volume, the volume fades down in the master out to the PA, which is great, but the track volume stays the same in the cue track. Thus the audience hears the fade, but with my isolation headphones on, I have no idea what's going on.

How can I control the track volume in the master PA out and the cue out at the same time?

More generally, what is controlling the volume of the clips going to the cue output?

The manual and Live 6 Power! book don't spend a lot of time covering cueing, so any help is tremendously appreciated.

Many thanks,

- robert

the point of a cue system is that you can hear things which aren't in the main PA

so what you need is control at the mixer or soundcard, whatever..

for instance my rane mixer has a crossfader for the headphone out, which goes between cue and master, so you can listen to one, the other, or a blend of both

Thanks for the help, gents...but I'm still confused.

What's a "rane mixer?"

Are you saying I should set up the crossfader in the arrangement view so I can mix between cue and master out?

a rane mixer is a mixer made by rane, the company.

actually it appears that I lied, and that it only has a cue/master switch. the cue has a crossfader between the two channels.

but the point is that if there is no way to achieve this in the software or hardware associated with your fast track, then you could look at getting a piece of hardware which will allow you to do it.

such as a Rane TTM56

how could you do this just with LIve? hmm.. maybe you could sort of forget about the cue system and set up a special audio track (or tracks) which output directly to ext out 3/4. one of them could be input "master" so it would be fed by the master fader... the other could have the click track. one or more additional tracks for receiving temporary "cue" material

might work,
